I found out last nihgt that when we see a female here it will be a new one.

the resident female was found dead :cryinggirl: at end of season last year. When Gord examined further, they found she had been poisoned but not in the usual way. She had a full crop and had eaten a yellow flicker. After examining the yellow flicker ,they found that it had poison in it s system from eating ants. The ants had been dusted with a powder to get rid of them. In the process they killed a flicker and a falocn. Gord said the flicker was probably flying wonky , which was fair game for the peregrine. It is sad but this site is at the end of a residential area.

so be careful how you control your weeds and insects and everything else. It eventually ends up in the food chain

Peter and I will be in REd deer for a few Hours later tomorrow and we will try and look for peregrines.

How sad to read about the residential female's fate.
I never use anything except natural repellents. I have no problem with ants living in my garden and when I find some in my house I deal with them without poison. Self-raising flour works great.

I think it should be forbidden to use any poison, except maybe for licensed companies who know what they are doing and take precautions to avoid contact with other animals to the poison.

You can hear both falcons, one chupping and the other calling in the background. The falcon walks to the other side of the box and disappears off cam view.

Here are my picutres from last Thursday , finally. Not good but it gives you a perspective from the ground.

the guy I talk to there lives right across from box and they love them and have followed them for years.

His son was allowed to hold a chick at banding one year.

He said some do not love them as they kill the Bluejays but I told him , they would not kill too many as that is not their main food source.
he told me bird sanctuary is jsut down road so they probably go for smorgasbord. :egg6: :egg6:

I am so glad that they are watched clsoely by residents there.

Peter and I go down again on Saturday so we will stop in again.
I wish I had a better lens but mine is big enough for me to handle.Peter uses it most of time

remember these are taken form a distance. It looked female to me

I'm so glad to hear there is a pair at this site, and appreciate the video and ground pics. I tuned in this afternoon but missed them.
