Hi everyone. Carlo Catoni has posted a short full HD clip of Alice (of Alice and Virgilio, Rome) on YouTube :valheart:
If you key in "Alice chiama Virgilio" you should be able to pull it up.

Watch it full-screen, it's worth it :valthumb:

Paolo (Taranto), the biologist who works a lot with the local authorities in the Bologna area, has confirmed that the fourth egg was laid today. He went to sort the cam out this morning and it was laid shortly after he left :egghatch: :spingirl:

Unfortunately, our beloved has Aisha has moved onto immense blue skies to fly high with Felix Image.

The falcon we're seeing in Bologna at Aisha's nest will be renamed as the feeling on the Italian forum is that Aisha was unique. As soon as her name is confirmed I'll let you know.

How lovely to see the continuity at the nest site. Let's hope the new pair build a strong and lasting bond and raise their chicks with the same dedication that we saw in Aisha and Felix.

That is really sad news. I'm so sorry Warbler. Hopefully the new female will be suited to the big shoes she has to fill.

As far as I know, her body hasn't been found but when Paolo Taranto went to adjust the cam, he realised that the female wasn't Aisha. Paolo's a biologist who works closely with local authorities in Bologna and knows the birds very well. Aisha would've been around 14-15 years old so I suppose we had to expect something like this.

One of our members can see the towers from where she lives and often goes to visit the birds all year round. She has seen two birds regularly all winter. The new female has laid four eggs whereas I think Aisha had only laid 3 in the last couple of years and in 2010 only two chicks hatched. Last year, there was a gap of 13 days between the first and second egg. There was some talk about a possible change in the female then but there were so many problems with the cam that I think that was put aside and we were only interested in how many chicks hatched and that they were well. Could there have been a change last year in those 13 days?

We hope that the 'new' female does her job well and we see 4 healthy chicks leaving the nest to start a new generation of falcons around Bologna.
