Great Scott! Surprise best in show at Westminster 2011 Dog Show :)

NEW YORK ... Hickory *Scottish deerhound just might like the big-city life.

A Scottish deerhound that loves to chase deer and rabbits on a 50-acre farm in Virginia did
more than fine at Madison Square Garden this week,
winning best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club on Tuesday night and the title of America's top dog.
Hickory will get a couple of Manhattan treats on Wednesday - steak at famed Sardi's
restaurant and a trip to the top of the Empire State Building.

Hickory :)

A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell.
He painted a sign advertising the 4 pups and
set about nailing it to a post on the edge of
his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the
post, he felt a tug on his overalls. He looked
down into the eyes of a little boy..

"Mister," he said, "I want to buy one of your
puppies."

"Well," said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat
off the back of his neck, "These puppies come
from fine parents and cost a good deal of money."

The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then
reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a
handful of change and held it up to the farmer.

"I've got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take
a look?"

"Sure," said the farmer. And with that he let out
a whistle. "Here, Dolly!" he called.

Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran
Dolly followed by four little balls of fur.

The little boy pressed his face against the chain
link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the
dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy
noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse.

Slowly another little ball appeared, this one noticeably
smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then in a somewhat
awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward
the others, doing its best to catch up...

"I want that one," the little boy said, pointing to the
runt. The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said,
"Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able
to run and play with you like these other dogs would."

With that the little boy stepped back from the fence,
reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his
trousers.

In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down
both sides of his leg attaching itself to a specially made
shoe.

Looking back up at the farmer, he said, "You see sir,
I don't run too well myself, and he will need someone
who understands."

With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and
picked up the little pup.

Holding it carefully he handed it to the little boy.

"How much?" asked the little boy... "No charge,"
answered the farmer, "There's no charge for love."

The world is full of people who need someone who
understands.

Dear God: Its me, the Dog
Image
Dear God: Is it on purpose that our
Names are spelled the same, only in reverse?

Image
Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers,
but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

Image

Dear God: When we get to Heaven, can we sit
on your couch? Or will it be the same old story?
Image

Dear God: Why are there cars named after
the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang,
the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE
named for a Dog? How often do you
see a cougar riding around? We love a nice car
ride! Would it be so hard to rename
the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?
Image

Dear God: If a Dog barks his head off
in the forest and no human hears him,
is he still a bad Dog?
Image

Dear God: We Dogs can understand human
verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles,
horns, clickers, beepers, scent IDs,
electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee
flight paths. What do humans understand?
Image

Dear God: More meatballs,
less spaghetti, please.
Image

Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven?
If there are, will I have to apologize?
Image

Dear God: Here is a list of
just some of the things I must remember
to be a good Dog:
1. I will not eat the cat's food before he eats
it or after he throws it up.
2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish,
crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.
3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar.
4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.
5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.
6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's
underwear when he's on the toilet.
7. Sticking my nose into someone's
crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'.
8. I don't need to suddenly stand
straight up when I'm under the coffee table.
9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before
entering the house - not after.
10. I will not come in from outside,
and immediately drag my butt across the carpet.
11. I will not sit in the middle of the living
room, and lick my crotch.
12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy',
so when I play with him and he makes that noise,
it's usually not a good thing.

P.S. Dear God: When I get to Heaven,
may I have my testicles back?

New Puppy at Blue Moon Ranch! Here is Linda's Sunday post
Image
January 15, 2012 Whoa, I think I kind of forgot how much time a new puppy takes! But the smell of puppy breath is so awesome - I'd bottle it if I could. :) We're all getting to know her and so far it's going great. She even rode in the pickup truck to deliver some hay to the boys barn yesterday.

Today's photo: Check out the size of those feet, and she won't be 9 weeks old till Tuesday! We got us a big one!

Gigi's Note: I am in love!
