:loveheart2: At 5:05 Mom up and can see B16's head lying just inside of the half shell, but in full view and the other half shell is still over a portion of body, but can mostly see B16! Mom settles over.

:loveheart: Was going to post all of todays events, but someone else has posted, so I won't. A little bit ago I did see Mom get up and she went over to the squirrel and attempted to have a few bites. B16 was up and chirping away and she even went to the nest cup and attempted to offer he or she a bite, but it was facing the wrong direction and faceplanted.

:15heartbeat: A very unpopular opinion, however the area some of the Berry chat members saw as a pip Sunday morning and/or evening did not strike me as a pip. Some thought a crack was forming today from that "pip". If this is egg 2 it will be 39 days at some point later today since laid (still within the hatch window) and if it is egg 1 it will be 42 days since laid at 9:50 am. I kept thinking all day I've seen this pattern/markings on an egg before and then I remembered the falcon eggs at South Bend last season that disintegrated. A real heartbreaker if that is the case.

Pa and Mom continued their nest exchanges and caring for B16 who is a very chirpy chick. Some of their exchanges were hilarious and especially the 1st one of the day. Mom doesn't want to leave the bowl and Pa wants her up and the shenanigans begin. Pa did do his first feed to B16 today. Mom is on chick duty for the overnight.

Bel saw a chase this afternoon per the app cam involving Pa. I did see Pa on the left rear branch that he arrived abruptly to and alerted and I think this may have been right after. All is well, but they have had to shoo intruders away from the nest area since B16's arrival.

:loveheart: Nothing new with the egg today. Pa brought in more prey before the end of the day as he could see from his afternoon feed to B16 their supply was getting low on the nest. Still no fish as the rivers and such are still muddy from their recent rains and more is expected tonight along with some higher wind gusts. Mom is on duty for the overnight. Another possible intruder this afternoon causing Pa to arrive abruptly to the left rear branch again, but no apparent problems noted.

:loveheart: For Wednesday, 1/25/23: Pa brought in a fish for the 1st time since B16 hatched despite it having rained through the night. B16 looks great and apparently will be the only hatch this season. Mom and Pa are really stuffing B16 frequently.

:flirty: They both brooded and fed B16 today, but a couple times she did not let Pa on. B16 is getting a little bigger and noticed B is clearing the nest cup with PS's now. Mom is currently on for the overnight. Berry still has not called the unhatched egg, they want another 1-2 days. Earlier on 1/26 it was day 41 for the unhatched egg if it was egg 2 or 44 if egg 1.

:flirty: Another day of Pa and Mom stuffing B16 full of squirrel. Unfortunately there was another intruder flying about the nest tree and Mom who was up feeding B16 at the time went into a HYPER-ALERT mode, but Pa was not in hearing distance I don't think. She flew off the nest to handle the situation and returned very quickly. The intruder Bald Eagle could be seen several times on the app cam or it's shadow. But it turned out well. Later when Pa arrived it was with alerts again as they watched something from above and Mom flew out again. Also, B16 got out of the nest cup in pursuit of getting bites during Mom's feed and B was all the way up on the nest floor to the left. Several minutes transpired. Mom even ate some on the rear of the nest. Then after Mom went to the opposite side of the cup (the right side), B16 did try to follow and kind of half tumbled back into it from the left side. Berry has called the unhatched egg:

Berry College Eagles

Happy Friday, eagle watchers! B16 certainly isn't lacking for food—this little eaglet is eating almost constantly, and we'd swear it has nearly doubled in size since last weekend!
At this point we do not believe it is likely that egg #2 will hatch. Typically, the eagles will bury nonviable eggs in the nest materials, so we will probably see that happen over the next little while. Thankfully, we have the opportunity to watch B16 grow and develop!

:flirty: Thankfully B16 stayed within the nest cup today. No actual intruders were seen, however Mom flew out and was right back in seconds before Pa arrived with the rabbit this morning. On her return she seemed to see something in the distance as did Pa, but it was short-lived and nothing became of it. They continue to feed from the squirrels and now of course there is rabbit. I have seen Mom down 2 pelts today with 1 being earlier this evening after dark. She also ate after that before returning to the nest cup to brood B16 where she remains now with her head tucked sleeping.

:flirty: A lot of rain this evening, however Mom is keeping B16 dry. During a break in the rain a little while ago she got up and flapped her wings to rid the rain water and then proceeded to the prey pile. She brought back a bite for B16, however B was unable to get it and Mom decided to call it quits and went back to the bowl and settled. Pa was in and out today and did get some time brooding B. He continues to bring in mammals as I assume the fishing is still not favorable at this time. The unhatched egg is still in the bowl and it looks a little crowded at times with B's rapid growth.

:loveheart: The nest was a soggy mess this morning, but has dried some throughout the day. Pa brought in fluff to help the process. He also brought in a catfish today! I'm sure the squirrels are relieved. B16 went out onto the nest again today during a feed and made it safely back to the egg cup when the feeding was over. It helps when Mom seems to go to the opposite side of the cup from where B16 is standing and then B heads toward her and down into the cup. B16's PS's are clearing the rails now as B grows stronger and larger each day!

:dancegirl: Cams down at 11:18 am for maintenance. Cams back at 1:32 pm.

Edit to add: It was a routine day with exchanges and feeds. Mom brought in a fish after 1 of her breaks!

:loveheart: Fluff and a stick brought in today. B16 went up on the nest to be fed again and right back to the egg cup when done. Pa did not return to the nest after he flew out late morning, so Mom will have an extra long shift to pull till morning. I did see a flash of white to the right rear of the nest in the distance heading upward at 6:28 that i wondered if it was Pa coming in to roost for the night, but no vocals. Rocky has been out and about this evening.

:flirty: Pa and Mom have worked very hard at keeping B16 dry on this very rainy day with Mom pulling the most hours. It has let up recently, but potential till early morning hours. Pa started his day with a feed on his arrival to the nest 1st thing this morning. And later he brought in an unidentified mammal this morning that Mom was able to feed B16 on throughout the day and some for herself. Prior to that she was working hard to remove what she could from the pieces of pelt that remained. She downed some of that too. B16 came topside once again for a feed and headed back on it's own when the time came. Think the rain was getting to B just a little as it wanted to get under Mom asap when she came down into the bowl. Did hear Pa call out from his roosting spot a little earlier.

:flirty: The rain finally ended and they had sun today! They remain very busy with their care of B16 who some days looks larger overnight. Pa brought in a fish today! He also brought in a mammal. Mom brought in a large stick for the right rails after she placed it atop Pa. There is still an intruder or intruders in the area as I saw Pa tracking one several minutes before Mom's arrival that she seemed to be chasing after from the sounds of her vocals on her way back to the nest. Mom is currently sleeping with her head tucked.
