@Nadia, THX for the "conflict" video.

That are amazing pictures of a majestic, not feisty allmost quiet take over
by Big Girl with a smart behaviour of at least submissive chief Romeo.
I've never seen that before.

It has been a difficult few days for the American Eagle Foundation’s NEFL Eagle Cam.

After spending close to 10 hours on the nest Sunday night into Monday morning, Juliet flew off at 9:30 am and has not been seen since. On Tuesday evening, December 18, a young adult female flew to the nest tree. (This is NOT the same intruder from last week). She worked her way up to the nest while Romeo was on the eggs. After a brief skirmish, Romeo and this young female had a stare down. Eventually Romeo backed off and flew to a branch. The young female slowly approached the eggs but did not harm them. She actually looked like she was trying to incubate them but was fairly clumsy and acted like she didn't really know what to do. She flew to a branch to perch and Romeo returned to the nest and his incubating duties. The eggs do not appear to be harmed. This went on a couple more times and at 11 pm Romeo was on the eggs and the young female perched and tucked in for the night.

We are simply waiting and watching patiently at this point to see what comes next. The "good" news is that this young female eagle does not seem like she wants to harm either Romeo or the eggs. She almost seems like she wants to help. She may not even realize that this nest belongs to another female, since she arrived after Juliet has been gone. We hope Juliet does returns, but if she doesn't, with eggs due to hatch December 19, Romeo might need this young eagle's help. All we can do is wait and stay postive.

One egg is in the process of hatching or is damaged. Romeo was gone for about 1 3/4 hr, but has returned to incubate.

AEF is not calling it a pip yet. I suppose we have to wait and see if there is progress. There have been many scuffles in the nest and I did see the new female step on the eggs yesterday. It could be damage. We'll know for sure soon enough.

Good Wednesday afternoon, hopeful Hamlet viewers!
Romeo flew to Lookout Point at 12:57, then flew off at 1:01,
and returned at 1:12 with a nice looking crop,
indicating he went out for a quick lunch!

Romeo and the young adult eagle flew in at the same time, with loud vocals! They both landed on the nest, flapped wings and exchanged loud vocals, then Romeo flew to the Sunset branch, the other to Lookout point, where she remains perched. Romeo flew down to roll and continue incubating his eggs at 2:27.

Loud sharp chirps
2 eagles on nest, one took submissive pose
Eggs are being left alone a lot

tweetie_AEF (Moderator): 2:56, One of the other eagles is vocalizing very loudly from the Wallenda Branches as Romeo incubates the eggs, which is causing every dog in the neighborhood to bark. It is not a quiet day in the Hamlet.

LOL Yes barking dawgs

From what I just read on the AEF log, they do not think the adult eagle seen this afternoon is the one that spent the night. This latest eagle is thought to be the one seen on 12/13, who also may have visited in Oct. They are trying to confirm ID, but it appears there may be 2 adult females in the area. That would be a lot for Juliet to contend with. Romeo has been on and off the eggs a lot today.

I would rather these eggs do not hatch . but being off them, will slow down hatching, that is for sure.

still hopeful for Juliet.

Santa Baby
Bringa Juliet back
Santa Baby
Her babies need her to survive

This is a terrible time to leave

Poor Romeo, he is NOT comfy with total egg duty.
He is very restless

If the eggs were chirping, they'd be calling him

5 pm Romeo is off agin - more interested in the tempting ladies.
Well, his name is Romeo

Holy Moly.... What a mess... I think we've all been spoiled by the success and peacefulness at this nest. "When it rains, it pours..."
Can't even imagine how many eagles are in the neighborhood now... "Hamlet" people can't keep up with them.
Fingers crossed....
Thank you all for your terrific updates, videos and pictures....

:hithere: Thank you Loza...great video. AEF confirms 2 adult females visiting the nest. The female in Loza's recent post is the same female that slept in the nest tree last night and is again sleeping in the tree this evening. She has a laceration on her left talon that I saw yesterday. It's visible in Loza's video. AEF is calling her A2. The other eagle is believed to be the same one that was seen on 12/13. She also visited today. She is A1.

What a mess. Either Juliet is staying out of the fray or she was injured to a greater extent than everyone believed. I wonder if the cere injury became infected and incapacitated her. It looked quite deep and not far from her eye. I'm with Bev...I really hope the eggs don't hatch. Romeo has been amazing through all this. My heart goes out to him. Just very bad timing for this to occur.

Romeo and several Juliets

From AEF chatroll overnite

Dec 19, 2018 * 6:16 PM LisaS_AEF (Moderator):
The eagle perched on cam2 appears to be the one that spent the night last night. Romeo is tolerating her as long as she stays away from the nest. It has been quiet so far. Romeo remains incubating on Cam 1 and the female on Cam 2. Hope Romeo will give us a good look at the eggs.

6:42 PM LisaS_AEF (Moderator):
Romeo rolls Eggs but did not allow for a good look, so we wait for the next roll.
Romeo decides he needs to aerate the nest

9:37 pm The female Eagle moved over to the nest
Romeo is back in the nest incubating on Cam 2 and she is perched on Cam 1.

Dec 20, 2018
3 am jd_AEF (Moderator):
Good early morning Hamlet! Romeo is incubating his precious eggs and the Female is perched on the Wallenda branches.

4 am update Romeo has rolled the eggs and wiggled back into the nest. Winds have picked up and the Female Eagle is not accustomed to some of the Hamlet noises. She appears to startle easily and is awake and constantly watching.

5 am, Romeo is getting a nice shower as gentle rain is passing through. The female eagle is still perched and occasionally doing her preening.

Today's Hamlet forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms Temps 60's to low 70's Winds 10-15 mph.
