It's been exactly 1 week since Ozzie's release but still no sign of his return to the nest area.
Harriet & FV continue to visit in the morning and evening hours. We will continue to keep you posted as the days progress.

Found this on the Hancock Forum (Posted by garyandjudi)
http://www.hancockwildlife.org/forum/vi ... 8&page=446

"Thanks MaryF for the Tuesday Ground Observations! I read this on NBC's news in Ft Myers from one of their local "eagle experts", but with all the different eagle behavior lately we shall see...P.S. Mark Westall is a professional naturalist that CROW goes to for any eagle related info and he conducts eagle seminars at CROW and is on the board of the Audubon Society...

"He just needs to survive right now, not thinking much about his territory," said local expert Mark Westall. Westall says people have to be patient as it could take months before we should be concerned about a reunion. "If he's going to come back, I would say that you would see him sometime in August," he said. "If we don't see Ozzie by the end of August, then there is a decent chance he will not come back to that site."
Mark Westall is to Florida eagle experts as David Hancock eagle expert is to us up here in Canada....both are eagle experts ....makes for great conversation to learn something new about eagles each and everyday....Thank You Vickie for being our eyes and ears through your most educational videos of the Ozzie and Harriett saga family of eagles we love to watch and read...it is a true learning experience."

(Please let me know if this is not allowed and I will delete. Thank You! Bonnie)
(Added - When you think about it, August is right around the corner!)

WSKRSNWINGS SAW ONLY HARRIET THIS MORNING AND I SAW THIS ON FB AND IT ANSWERS QUESTIONS ABOUT WHERE OZZIE AND HARRIET NORMALLY SPEND THEIR TIME IN THE OFF SEASON BY A SWFL EAGLE CAM MOD:

just curious does anyone know what direction o & h usually go when they take a break from nest duty (short migration). Maybe oz thought h would be there instead of waiting for him at home.

Swfl Eagle Cam Mod Kathy Henderson-oyler, from past years observations Ozzie and Harriet don't 'migrate' north, but remain in the area year round. During off breeding times they might not be seen by visitors to the nest area since the eagles are not as likely to remain near the nest area (nothing to protect during this time). When they are no longer providing for their young they tend to visit other locations where they enjoy good 'loafing' and roosting trees that offer shade during the hot months. While a few of these locations might be known to local eagle watchers, not all are known and there may be times when the eagles are not seen for a number of days at the locations which they frequented while raising young. Hope that helps. Thank you for following SWFEC.

From wskrsnwings this am:
Ground Observations by Wskrsnwings: Thursday, July 2, 2015 6:00 I am at the nest. Harriet is perched on the left outer nest tree branch. No vocals heard. 6:13 A short vocalization by Harriet. 6:32 Harriet stretches after moving out farther on the branch, then hopped to the stick out, looking around. 6:34 Harriet flies south to the vicinity of yonder pond. 6:37 I am at yonder pond. Harriet is well hidden in the greenery of the tall pine. She is quietly watching around the pond. No other eagles seen or heard. 6:58 Harriet flies to the back edge of the pond and gets a drink. 7:02 Harriet flies to the tall snag tree. She is very vocal and a mockingbird is pestering her. She preens a bit. 7:12 She flies to the left back stand of trees. 7:16 She moves out farther on the branch and is tracking something on the ground. 7:40 Harriet never left the branch. She remains perched on the same limb quietly. 7:46 She is preening a bit. 7:52 and 7:55 A mockingbird is dive bombing her and Harriet is very vocal. Harriet turns and moves back closer to the tree trunk. 8:00-8:30 Harriet is quiet and preening. 8:45 I am headed home after I checked the eagles perch stops. No eagles in sight. Stay safe and return strong, Ozzie.

FROM WSKRSNWINGS THIS AM:
Ground Observations by Wskrsnwings: Saturday, July 4th, 2015 6:00 I am at the nest. Both adults are in the front pine by the nest tree. Harriet is perched on an outer branch, FV is farther into the tree. 6:15 Harriet vocalizes just before FV flies to the nest tree. 6:18 FV is on the nest edge looking southwest, then over to the veranda. 6:20 FV launches to the attic. 6:34 There have been numerous vocals by both, especially Harriet, since I arrived today. 6:49 Harriet flies across the road to yonder pond. FV flies to the very front pine in the west pasture. 6:53 I am at yonder pond. Harriet is perched in the tall pine tree. 6:58 FV flies into the pond area to the tall snag startling and flushing a great blue heron, that was perched there, to a tree top across the pond. A second great blue flies in and lands at the top of Harriet's tree. 7:10-7:21 Harriet vocalizes her hellos about once every minute. FV is quiet. 7:23 FV takes off past the pond tree line to the south. 7:25 FV is atop the Norfolk pine tree way past the pond tree line to the south. 7:27 Harriet is looking around to the east and southeast skies. 7:30-7:40 Harriet has been preening and cast a pellet too. 7:45 Harriet is still perched in the tall pine, preening and quiet except for one vocal. FV is still in the distant Norfolk pine tree. 7:45 I am leaving the pond to check perch spots. 8:05 I am headed home. No sighting of Ozzie at the perch spots. Be safe and return strong, Ozzie.

FROM FACEBOOK:

Ground Observations by Wskrsnwings: Sunday, July 5th, 2015 6:00 I am at the nest. 6:00-6:30 I do not see Harriet anywhere in either pasture. She must have found a great spot to get away from the light and noise of the fireworks last night. FV is perched in one of the west pasture trees. No vocalizations at all. He is preening, had a poop shoot and a crop drop. His head and body, with quite s few loose small feathers, are still damp and unkempt from an earlier rain shower. 6:35 FV flies to one of the front pines on the southwest corner of the pasture. 6:55-7:00 FV is attempting to cast or did cast two pellets. 7:21 FV flies across the road to the east. 7:35 FV is in a Norfolk pine tree overlooking a small pond across the road. A mockingbird and blue jay are scolding and flying at him. He lunges at them but no vocals. 7:40 I am at yonder pond. No sighting of Harriet, Ozzie or any eagle. There is one osprey and a red winged blackbird looking for a meal at the pond. 7:50 The power poles are empty. 8:00 I am headed home. Be safe Mom and Ozzie. Return strong, Ozzie.

YOUR WELCOME BEV! AND THIS MORNINGS REPORT:
Ground Observations by Wskrsnwings: Monday, July 6th, 2015 6:00 I am at the nest. No eagles are seen or heard. 6:18 & 6:20 Harriet vocalizes, but I cannot see her. 6:27 Two different vocalizations are heard. 6:30 I see Harriet tucked way back in a tree above the 5 palms. 6:34 Harriet flies from one tree to another, north end of pasture. FV flies to a different tree, south end of the pasture. A Mockingbird is pestering him. 6:47 FV flies across the road to yonder pond. 7:09 Harriet casts a pellet then starts preening. 7:30 Harriet is vocal at a blue jay that is interrupting her preening. 7:38 Harriet does a wing and body stretch, then is looking down to the ground. 7:46 Harriet moves a little and rouses. A feather floats down to the ground. 7:45-8:15 Harriet is preening and pulls out a loose feather. She is scratching, crop drop, looking around, tucking her foot under her. 8:15-8:18 Harriet is looking around, wing stretch and a turn around twice. She tucks her foot, moves again, vocalizes and turns back again. 8:20 Harriet flies to the light green pine tree at the north end of the tree line. Vocalizing. 8:41 Harriet sees something in the airspace and tracks it. 9:02 Harriet looks around and hops to another branch, turning again. 9:06 Harriet flies in front of the west pasture tree line across the road to the SW, turning more west until she is a tiny speck and out of sight. Crows chase and fly beside her for quite a while. 9:15 I am headed home. No return to the nest area by Ozzie this morning. Be safe and return strong, Ozzie.

FROM WSKRSNWINGS:
Ground Observations: Tuesday, July 7th, 2015 6:00 I am at the nest. No eagles seen or heard. 6:10 & 6:12 I hear Harriet vocalize in the west pasture but I cannot see her yet. 6:20 I see Harriet perched high in the single pine in the west pasture. 6:28 FV flies to a branch under Harriet. He is hidden at first by the pine boughs between us. 6:33 Harriet watches FV fly down to the ground. 6:35 FV flies up into the lighter green pine tree north of where he had gone to the ground. 6:42 FV leaves the pine, flies to the front of the pasture, back east along the road, then into the nest tree pasture. He lands in an upper right branch of the nest tree and perches. 6:45 Harriet leaves, flies across the road and to the southeast farther and farther until she is a tiny speck and out of sight. FV follows right behind her. 6:50 I am leaving the nest to check some other perch spots for Ozzie. 7:30 I am headed home. No sight or sound of any eagles at the nearby perch spots checked.
