Went for a short watch as Saturday this week is out...
Arrived at 6pm...Things were pretty quiet...the various birds downtown were going about their business without any hesitation and doves and pigeons doing alot of gliding about...which they do not do when the know where a peregrine is at. Had just texted Cheryl, about seeing nothing for about a half hour, when I looked up from phone...there were two, that had come in from the east past the Canton Club....doing a tandem hunt over downtown!! Whipped out the camera, and started shooting...
One was above the other and through the lens it appeared to be Mystic above and Mo below chasing the pigeons...When pics were downloaded, that is what happened...That was the extent seeing Mo...He is flying Great!! Old raggy andy wings, as he is in what appears to be a heavy molt...but it could be just the iodine stain and or missing feathers...but his primaries appear different lengths...I suppose it could be broken off tips too...but it isn't hurting his flight...the lil bugger was FAST!!..
He dissapeared behind the Key building as Mystic did a cool low approach to the heating/cooling hut atop the Key Building...She snuck up on the edge to try to suprise the pigeons!!!...
They were not up there and so she settled down and did some preening and observing of her own...The birds around the garage were all on high alert...the robins nesting in the trees in the containers behind the First Ladies Building especially were upset...one sat on the roof of the building with worms in it's mouth alarm calling for a lonnngggg time...They know when Mystic or Mo is in hunt mode!!! Somehow!
So after about 45 minutes, Mystic takes off and comes to the far side of the garage...looking down at the edge...and then turned and headed of toward her typical succesfull southern hunting grounds...
That was it as the light is decreasing...left a little after 8pm...rain was yet again moving in...
One thing that was different about the pics was the light play on the falcons during their tandem hunt pics...They looked really silver!!! Almost appearing like gulls!!
This will be the last watch for some time, for me....The boy's are gone....this was the third watch in almost 3 weeks... with no sign of the remaining two...I can only Hope that they turn up someday at a nest that is monitered!!
Cam is "unplugged" so we may have a long wait till next season!!!
