I f you look further up where I circled by egg , that is what someone thought was an egg but I magnified and it was not. She would not have dashed doff either if she had just laid an egg.

the eyes play tricks sometimes but I think it is soon. I have videos of when they zoomed in but I have to put grandson in bedroom with that computer

but we should see it by morning.Poor girl has had a time of it

Thanks Bev!

I've been in and out all day. I could clearly tell from your pictures there was just one egg - great shots. So glad this forum exists, so we can always go check.

I just stumbled across this on YouTube. The video is long, not that unusual, and I personally recorded the same thing and I'm sure several of us actually watched it live...it was the "explanation" that I found very curious. Not sure where this person got the info or if its even true...but, if it is, its possible Lil dropped egg #2 some place else. Is that possible?...I guess time will tell...hmmmmm

Video by zooey91

explanation:

Published on Feb 15, 2013

Lil showed every indication of being about to lay her second egg, but around the 19:00 mark she begins to vocalize. She left when Dan showed up around 21:31. Turns out that she was thrown off by someone walking around on the roof of 201 Mission. Captured from the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group's live webcam stream. http://www2.ucsc.edu/scpbrg/nestcamSF...

That's Jim and he is the "official" video poster for UCSC SF webcam. He captures most of the daily action when things start heating up in the season. They may have had watchers out today since things are getting busy, so that may be how the information was provided to him.

ETA: 201 Mission is the building across the street. Sometimes the cam will zoom over there when Dan & Lil are perching. We also see mating over there. They have been known to become very defensive when people go on the roof over there during nesting season.

Now, as for dropping an egg someplace else, it has been done. Years ago, I think George & Gracie used this site. One year, they laid 1 egg here, then ended up having the remainder of the clutch somewhere else (I think it might have been the bay bridge).

Glenn and his group took the egg from this site and brought it back to the UCSC lab and I think it ended up hatching. If I remember correctly, I think the hatchling was named GG2, or something like that... I'll look back and see if I can find some info.

Found it... from 2007:

That was an interesting article, mwplay! Thanks for sharing it with us. Lets just hope that Lil & Dan don't get any ideas about another nesting site!

WOW...thanks so much for that info, mwplay and for IDing zooey91....

So, 201 mission is the building with the railing? Gosh, that seems so far away from the nest!!! But, I guess if they use it for mating, then I can see how they might get upset...but, to stop an egg lay?

I must say, her behavior on the 15th was completely different from her behavior yesterday (16th) She seemed to be in such egg mode on the 15th...yesterday, she was more animated, energetic, etc.. I have to say, I was a tad worried about her on the 15th...she seemed so lethargic, etc.

So...if she did dropped egg #2 on the 15th...its possible we could see egg #3 today...hmmmmmmm...guess we'll never know for certain..maybe somebody needs to go check the roof of 201 mission..

There is now just enough light on the cam for me to see that somebody is on the egg...I really had to lighten this..

Wait, did somebody from the site say they thought she dropped her egg or was that your theory SGB? Because I actually thought the same thing. Thanks mwplay for that info, interesting.

ljames..that was just my theory...as far as I know, nobody official has made that statement...but, here's another horrid thought...what if she did...and she tries to incubate 2 places...I think its Dan on the egg right now.. :girlcrazy: Talk about letting my imagination run away with me... :teehee:

I know what you mean, I think of the wildest things too. Yes, I thought the male too, ok just got up and only one egg.

Edit: I think your theory is looking more and more possible.
