When I went to the calendar it was noted nest failure, but there were no dates anywhere., just egg egg and nest failure. I got the impression that we are hoping these eggs we are seeing now will hatch so I assumed [always dangerous] that these were new eggs. Oh, I am confused and hope I have not added to anyone else's confusion. Feel free to change the nesting calendar if you think what I have is incorrect.... :girlcrazy:
LOL...I just went and looked at the Calendar revision history...Nest Failure was next to Orange, CSU...it was never next to Alcoa... :teehee: ...Probably the "nest failure" you saw on the Calendar was for the 2012 season....maybe?
Actually, I did see that by CSU Orange. What I changed was at Alcoa. Before I made the changes, the first and second eggs were just noted as egg egg with no date and then nest failure was there, also with no reference to a date. Someone before me evidently put those on the Alcoa nest. I completely changed Alcoa by putting the September dates for the first and second eggs [from the blog] and noting the first clutch failed based on what was already there. I then added 3rd and 4th eggs as new. If you want I can change it back to what it was, but I have never thought just putting the word egg provided much information. Just my opinion. Let me know if you want me to change it back, or leave it as I updated it.

Oh my gosh, I just figured out what I did wrong and have changed it sort of back to how it was. When I saw the nest failure notation, I did not realize that was in the 2012 1st egg column. Since there were no dates, just egg egg, It looked like that all went together. Now what I have done:
1. leave the dates for the 1st and 2nd eggs , like this ~9/18 [someone told me that was how we were supposed to note an undetermined date] and made the type black again.
2. removed the 3rd and 4th eggs dates of 10/2.
3. noted "2012 nest failure" back in the proper column for 2012.
Here is what it looks like now
Image
Basically it is back the way it was with a few little differences. Now I know what SGB was talking about when shementioned 2012. At the time it didn't register with me since I knew I was on the 2013 calendar!
I truly apologize for the trouble and confusion but I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT and now I am doing the :hapdance: :hapdance: :hapdance:

For Peregrine Falcons, the incubation period is 33 to 35 days from the date the last egg was laid. How long the eggs had been on the bunker before they were discovered in mid September is uncertain. If we were attentive and found the eggs soon after they were laid, 28 days have past today and we're only days away from finding out if the nest has been successful this year. Cross your fingers!

:sum9: OMG! Finally! I'm so happy for Ava & Havoc. Welcome to the world to the first chick at Alcoa in years! BTW, it doesn't look like a newly hatched chick so I'm thinking at least a week old.

I noted the nesting calendar that the chick was first observed on 10/22. We first observed the eggs on 9/18, the 10/23 would be 35 days.

Gigi, take into consideration that the chick doesn't look like a newly-hatched chick. I'd say its at least a week old. I think "first observation" of the eggs is the key. They might have been there awhile before they were noticed.

. Yes first observed is the key here. That is as accurate as we can get.

No good news. Apparently the chick hasn't make it and the dead one
has been removed from nest. 2nd egg didn't hatch & vanished

Unfortunately, it appears that the season is over for Havoc and Ava.

During last week's monitoring Ava was sitting tight on her second egg, although it was unlikely to be successful. The eggs will hatch in the same order they are laid, but with only two eggs, it should only be matter of days after the first egg hatches before we would expect the second chick to emerge. Finally Ava gave us a glimpse, but then it was of a listless chick. http://www.alcoa.com/australia/en/image ... 01_sml.jpg It didn't look promising.

Image

This week Ava is sitting on the bunker ledge, http://www.alcoa.com/australia/en/image ... 07_sml.jpg

preening in the warmth of the afternoon sun and checking out the adjacent ledge (and checking out me!).

There was no sign of the chick or the second egg. Today the bunker ledge is empty.

Thanks for the update, Ferenz. What a bummer! :cryinggirl: Well, maybe they'll re-clutch.
