I'm not at all familiar with this nest, but at some nests, one bird will prefer sitting in one direction while incubating and the other bird prefers sitting in a different direction. Is that the case with Lil and Dan?

Well, I wish I knew who he/she was talking too...

This is starting to make me a tad crazy...I'll keep the cam up...and hope to see 2 falcons in the same cam view...otherwise, I'm just gonna have to flip a coin and wait to see what the ground crew says...

You're right, Susan, & I can't say as I've noticed that at this nest. Maybe mwplay or ljames would know?

:teehee: :teehee: :teehee: I wish I knew...only thing that has always stuck out for me is Lil's wing tips sticking up in the air and Dan looking flat...its been a while since I checked on them, so who knows now..

When they are "talking" like that, I wish they would swing to the ledge really quick...to see if something is there...or flying...

mwplay, you need to ask for cam controls....

Completely stupid input here...

If both pairs were in nesting mode...

If there was a battle between the males or the females... what if the winning party (male or female) has come into nest? Would they still be in incubation mode and want to incubate eggs?

I don't believe an intruder would come to a nest with such familiarity as what we've seen this afternoon. Just my opinion, though.

Good question, mwplay...

Remember Gulf Tower in PA? Female replacement (sorry, can't remember the names)...she took over incubation and also laid her own eggs...I'm not sure how "normal" that is...

Good question & from what I've seen in the past, for example Dori & Louie, the female wouldn't incubate the eggs until she lays her own, but we've seen too many surprises from these birds to say for sure!

not right away. From what i have seen and input from Gord. A male may be more likely than a female look at San Jose last year andI had same at my site with different male after eggs laid.
Remember at Pittsburg, new female would not incubate, male came back and did. She did not till she laid her own.

I know. Whoever this is, is responding to something... mate/intruders/workers across the street? who knows?

I think the students in Glenn's classes at UCSC might be driving the cams right now.... not 100% sure. I think they monitor the nest for prey deliveries during daylight hours. I don't know if they cover both San Francisco and San Jose, or when this starts, but I know they have been doing it for a few years now.

I like both nests, but honestly, there is more boots communication/outreach/news and cam operations geared towards viewers in San Jose. SF seems to be more observation based, not entertainment based in my opinion.

Well, I'm taking a break....bottom line, if we think we are watching Lil, then that is great news as it was Lil that everyone was worried about...

Pictures on page 19 are 2 different birds. one is lil.You can see head shot with that kind of narrow twist of black after full cap. there is a white gap in between.

Lil incubates with flp part of tail down and two wings up in air. SGB had a Picture of that today

I am not certain of ho is there right now unless they move back but I will post some past shots
