They finally gave us a shot of the box & its the same bird with the feather on the eggs. Now that I've seen a close-up, I think its Lil cause the black doesn't go clear down to her neck.

Hope you're right, Catwoman...of course, that would mean that Dan is MIA today...unless, this is just their pattern...those eggs were uncovered for 50 minutes...

Thank goodness for the feather... :teehee:

Her face still looks rounded from a distance, but comparing this picture with the one of Dan last night, there is a difference, at least I think so. Hoping we'll hear more from the "boots" later today! :snowflake2:

Yes, the feather will certainly help with IDing! Now, if we could just decide on who has the feather. :girlcrazy:

I'm sorry... I'm late to this.. Here's an update from Ann G, SF Yahoo Forum. Posted at 9:35AM:

State of the Scrape :: 03.10.13 :: Three's Company?

We have some very interesting behavior occurring in SF at the moment, and are still trying to figure out what is going on. First order of business, an attempt to identify 'Mohawk' and 'Nohawk', both believed to be tiercels, and the PEFA we watched on the nest Saturday morning, who is believed to me a falcon (female).

It could be that we have three PEFAs in the mix here. Or not.

I am sure people have noticed that the eggs are spending some intervals, longer that we are used to, alone in the scrape.

>CUE< G. Stewart with a post about the resiliency of the eggs...

More info will follow as we untangle this web...

~AnnG

Obviously there's some major disturbances going on and unfortunately, doesn't sound like any of these birds are banded!!!

I do think we saw Lil yesterday.

I do think we saw Dan yesteday.

This bird with the mohawk, in my opinion looks like a combination of both! I mentioned yesterday how Dan's eyes look cute because the yellow that extends his corners & Lil's eyes look mean. This bird has that "cute look", but meaner eyes...

So lost...

I wondered yesterday that if there was a fight and both pairs were in incubation mode, would they just come in and incubate? In all the other nests where we've seen battles, one of the pair is normally not in synch with the other. In this instance, they know both had already laid eggs, just maybe not on the same date. Now, this is assuming we are discussing the Sutter pair. But if a pair from Bay Bridge, they could very well be in incubation mode as it seems most pairs in our area that I'm aware of have started egg laying.

OK...I must be more productive today...so, I'm just gonna keep the recorder on...let's hope Dan/Lil continues to wear the feather...if not, I've got numerous pics at different zoom levels that we can use to compare...

I think the eggs are probably fine...I know that GHO's can often leave their eggs uncovered for an hour with no harm...since the male never incubates...what's up with that anyway...why didn't owls and most song birds evolve to both incubating..

OK..feather bird is really talking right now..this is when they need to pan.

Some serious closeups right now...I don't think "feather bird" is happy with them...
