Honestly, No. But, it did run through my mind when I saw 7.. And I see you are seeing 5's also? Maybe those are your lucky numbers?

But those poop shots look like little eyes to me... I've been staring at this stupid computer screen all day..

Check out this picture. One falcon in two places.

Hey Catwoman, now that would be funny. You know I kinda of almost did that once. I went to my pictures to capture a photo and a one from last year was right before the one I just took of the same nest and at the last minute, I was like wait a minute, something's wrong here.

Ljames, I thought maybe you were teasing SGB about her "7 eggs" by posting a picture you knew wasn't the right number of chicks. Does that make sense?

I think you're right about 3 being much easier to provide for than 4. Sure seems like things are going very smoothly this year!

These two had been snoozing in this corner and the other baby in the other corner when food arrived.

Image

Headed toward the food.

Image

The other one finally gets there too. :-)

I wish that you could see them better

I have an idea. Place a dark panel in the back of the box, then change it to a light colored panel when they band the chicks. Of course, you could see in the nest much better before they closed that left side off.

Parents were on the wall. Chicks are walking around exploring a lot. They are fascinating to watch. I saw one of the chicks pecking at another to the point where I could see his skin move as the other one pulled at him. I was like you need to move out of the way, which he finally did.
Went over and snuggled with the third one.

Off topic for 2013 hatches, but...

Glenn Stewart just posted this on the SJ Yahoo Forum:

Update on prior years San Jose Babies

Thanks to volunteers who spend an enormous amount of time afield I can make this report. A male (Hiko) and female (Espie) from 2007 are nesting on the Fruitvale Avenue Bridge and SF-Oakland Bay Bridge, respectively. A 2009 female (Illahay) occupies a nest territory at San Francisco International Airport. The entire 2012 clutch has been accounted for since dispersal: Don Edwards Refuge, Ahote; Crystal Springs Reservoir, Hope; Sunnyvale, Horatio; Alviso, Thunder. Then there was Shadow, I believe a 2011 male that suffered an accident and is no longer with us--he was in the Baylands/Palo Alto area. I have 81/P, a 2009 San Jose baby that was seen a few years ago in Newark (Alicia Lewis can put a name to that band). I'm sure someone will chime in if I forgot to include one, but this is really a remarkable list, both because we have so many SJCH birds represented in the data, and because we have encountered these banded birds at all. A hats-off salute to the observers who find, and report all these encounters! --glenn@scpbrg

I'm not 100% sure, but I think SFO who is in rehab with Glenn may have been Illahay's mate. And to connect the dots, Hope's current mate is a 2011 hatch from SFO (82/P). I wonder if he is Illahay's & SFO's son? Illahay & Hope are Both EC & Clara offspring.

And 81/P is Veer from 2009!

Great to hear about the babies from prior years, mwplay! Glad so many are surviving to this point. :flirty:

Thanks for posting that report mwplay. Joy and sadness and I remember them all and also those that never made it out of the nest or died during fledge or shortly there afterwards. :girlsad3:

The world is a better place because our SJ babies are a part of it. :rainbow

A few shots today. I have somehow managed to miss any feedings.

They have been in that corner for a major part of the day.

Oh my word, watching a feeding and everybody is VERY aggressive. They must have been terribly hungry.

Image

That big one in the back has a good reach and is out eating the other two.

Image

This was not pretty. She finally got that very long piece pulled out of the two chicks and ate it herself.
Image

The prey is pretty big so they will get all they can eat I'm sure. I also noticed FC sitting beside the nestbox on the wall.

Image

FC eating, it might have been him feeding , but I didn't think so at the time. Anyway Clara is now back in the box and FC wandered on down the runway with the prey.

Jody on the SJ Yahoo forum posted the following regarding dinner:

Definetly larger than an pigeon - looked pretty close to Fernando's size too! He must have really worked hard to get that to the ledge...
But unfortunately I have no idea what it was.

ETA:

KTRB on SJ Yahoo Forum witnessed delivery in person:

(That was Clara who brought it in)

I was most fortunate to have witnessed Clara launch from her tallest point on CH (the vertical antenna on the south roof) out west to meet up with Fernando - who was flying in from the west (Guadalupe River area).
Just east of the Knight-Ridder building: vocal greetings and that large prey was transferred from Fernando to Clara.
They flew tandem to near CH - Clara flew a few circles around the west side and south side of City Hall (in a display not a trying to gain altitude) before going up to the nest ledge and then in!

To watch them in flight and listen to them e-chup and e-chip is extraordinary!

Very interesting about the large prey, mwplay. So Fernando actually caught the prey but Clara met him & carried it part of the way for him. Nice teamwork! So glad everybody got a good meal last night!

Thanks mwplay for posting those reports, especially from the eye witness. How fun to know what happens before it gets to the ledge. Lucky people to live near nesting falcons. :girlyes:

So Clara to go out and help FC get it home , huh? :cheer

If I remember correctly, I think last year, they had not observed a mid-air prey exchange between FC & Clara. FC used to bring the meal all the way to the nest ledge and even did this after the kids were in the air. Remember how he used to get chased and mobbed by the "starving" kids?

So, he's learned a lot this year!

I just watched a feeding, very strange. Everything looked good chicks got their fill but then they zoomed on one of the chicks and it looks like one of the wings outlined in red. Injury??? ledt over food??? Just the camera angle? Then Clara stashed the prey over in the corner, cramming in up against a chick.

OMG what's happening ?? is that Clara in there dragging that chick by the neck across the box???
It is running back to the corner.
She is acting crazy trying to get them tucked under her.

I didn't see it, but will watch. I don't see anything on the Yahoo group, yet. But, it's only 7:12 here and people may be on way to work and did not see a feeding.

Darn. Someone else just posted to the group...

Great...
:girlsad3:

Did you just see FC come in and Clara drive him away.

Now I'm afraid.
