We've had three hatches in one day in Harrisburg already. And I can remember RG's beloved Mom helping a chick out of a shell before. RG left a moment ago. Maybe CJ has some dinner!

She had started that feeding WAY far away. She did move closer with the food, and then took off with it. Not sure what that represented.

Congrats, CJ & Red Girl! The only thing I can think of (other than impatience) for RG to pull a chick out of a shell is if it was sticking to the shell, which can happen if the eggs aren't turned often enough. Jane, I do remember Mom helping a chick out of its shell, too, but she was very gentle about it. That was either 2008 or 2009--heck, maybe it was Red Girl she helped! :loveshow: I sure do like seeing chicks hatching the same day or not more than a day apart cause when you have one or more that are smaller than others, it can be tragic. :girlsad3:

Thanks for the videos, Kim & everyone else for the commentary & captures!

Just stopping by to congratulate everyone on this very busy day. Great to see all the sweet faces. We had our first hatches at James River today as well. Glad to see the early birds hatching out!!

I am so happy to see 3 little ones in one day!! It is a first for me since I have been involved with them. I have seen two hatch in one day, but not three. They are so sweet and how they sit there already eating. Amazing, just amazing!!!

The standing too far away for the first few feedings doesn't seem to be unusual. We've seen other mothers who have had babes before do this for the first few feedings. It seems they forget from one year to the next. Scout is one who did this, but after a few feedings, she caught on again. :flirty:

I'll be checking the cam at first light to see if there are any more hatches. (Gotta get up for work or I wouldn't be up at first light!) :teehee:

A couple more videos. One showing second chick hatching (well sort of, I missed some) and another showing both chicks and I think CJ? poking at the second one.

TODAY I CAN SEE YOUR VIDEOS KIM AND THEY ARE GREAT. LOVED THE SECOND ONE WITH CJ. I THINK HE THOUGHT THAT EGG SHELL WAS AN EGG AND THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE WITH THE REST OF THEM. WHEN HE MADE SURE IT WAS EMPTY, HE WAS HAPPY TO GO COVER THE CHICKS AND EGGS.

Whew! A day of routine feeding, maybe. In my book I was able to change a 2 to a 3 easily. LOL!! Can't predict anything with Nature! :egghatch: :egghatch: :egghatch:
