I really cannot believe this. I hope they were looking at picutre correctly and did not think small piece of prey was chick.

First of all, I didn't even know there was an archive...where is it? Wait..I don't think I want to know..

Sadly, I think we have seen this before...the recycling of a deceased chick...I really haven't gotten used to this, but am more accepting...However, we don't know how this chick died so that part has me concerned and worried.

The times I have checked today, the kids have appeared fine. I just checked about 30 min. ago and everybody was up and preening.

Joel Jorgensen's email address. I think his office is in Lincoln, but he's the wildlife biologist for Woodmen

This little chick has just exhausted itself. It has a feather stuck and can't get it out. It hasn't figured out how to use its feet to pull...its been trying to swallow it and that's not working either...Hera tried to grab it but the baby moved away before she got hold of it good...

I wonder if the chick that was down was the one with the feather stuck...if it was, it wore itself out with the feather problem and crashed!!!

I hope the feed took care of the feather problem..

I don't know about that SGB, perhaps, but I watched them eat until after dark and that one ate fine as far as I could tell.

Well I sure didn't know there was an archive but I did go there and saw the chick being fed to the others. I've seen this before so not so shocked as the first time I saw it, it's nature. It was very clear during the 6-7am hour. If this is a 24 hr archive, it will soon be gone.

I've been watching on and off and they all seem to be fine. I've seen several feathers fed to the chicks, but I guess they have to learn sometime....
