Just saw this. Hope everyone had a happy new year, too. Eagle season is over and peregrine season is starting.

Mike shared some sad news with me. NJ Fish and Wildlife can't support the 101 Hudson web cam this year. They are looking into other options, but it looks like it will just be feet on the street.

Yup, wasn't the news I was hoping for. Tough financial times for so many and affecting so many things. Money isn't everything, but the world sure revolves more smoothly when it's available...

You know, I'm really surprised we haven't seen this more often...I do hope they are able to work this out...or you and Mike are gonna be living down there with your bins, scope and camera!!!

I'd pitch a tent on the roof of one of those buildings, it'll double as a bird blind :teehee:

Rochester falcon cam costs upwards of $10,000 a year I think. But at least that was the cost of new equipment about 5 years ago. This cam has very old equipment and no one or ones to oversee the upkeep.

Wow, I am really surprised and sorry to both of you. Actually, it's not the equipment that costs, it's the bandwidth. Ustream is a free option, but one that most of the agencies won't use. I've been wondering if Wildearth is a good option. We have the newspaper interested in streaming in Richmond and the falcons moved on us :(

I'll ask about Ustream (I think that's still the host for the Duke Farms eagle cam, not sure tho). Sorry to hear the Richmond falcons changed addresses on you! They do that sometimes at the Palisades cliffs here in NJ. Sure keeps the watchers guessing from one year to the next!

Might have a ray of hope. Heard today that a compromise might've been reached, with DEP supporting the cam, and Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ doing alot of fundraising in attempt to reimburse the cost. Afterward, it'll be up to CWF to get the cam running for 2014.

Keep the fingers & toes crossed; we might have the cam this year after all. :sham6:
