Thanks for the information about Legs. I am sorry to hear that even after all the effort to help him, he just wasn't strong enough to survive. Sweet little Legs, he was a heart stealer, for sure.

I am so glad that all is working out with the new chick.
I wonder what they know and understand. Do they realize that it's not their own chick, but because it is a chick and needs care regardless, they care for it, or do they think that it is their chick? Well, it is their chick now. I sure hope the other baby finds a nice home too eventually.

Thanks Bonnie, I'm sure they do what they think is best.

Yes, I too would like to know what happend to legs. I thought he was all set with that performer guy.

Legs passed away sometime last year. They said his heart was too weak and gave out. He'd become a handsome young falcon, and I'm sure the crowds at the shows loved him (as did his caretakers, Phung Luu and Jackie of Animal Behavior and Conservation Connections out of Delaware).

Hopefully he inspired folks to care more about nature (maybe even plant the seed for a few kids to go into biology when they get older. Lots of kids at those shows). His life won't be in vain in that respect.

Mike, thanks so much for sharing this information...and just so sad that his life was so short, but I am so glad he was given a second chance for life. I am sure he was a great ambassador.

Its such a win-win situation here: Athena and Six get the chance to be parents, this new baby will be spoiled and doted on, and hopefully the first hatch will have his/her second chance for a healthy life. I sure wish other sites would/could adopt this approach...it really warms my heart..

Wow, lots happened here yesterday. How nice to see them fostering another chick, who was probably the runt of his litter and now will be spoiled rotten! They are great parents and its really good to see them have a baby to take care of. I guess we'll see what happens with their little one. Interesting to hear about legs, I had not heard that either. As good a rehabbing may be, if they have birth defects in the long run it catches up I guess. Kathy does a great job of keeping an eye on things here and reporting activities. She is fantastic!

Agree, this fostering is really cool. I believe the Peregrine Fund used it during the reintroduction program too (placing captive-bred Peregrine chicks in Prairie Falcon nests, and the Prairie's accepted them, at least in most cases I think).

A couple of shots for a decent feeding. Bites got bigger as they moved along. Chick waited patiently for each bite, very sweet.

There was a feeding around 12:40 p.m., view was mostly blocked. Image from the outdoor cam also taking a hit from the fog and rain today.

Watched the prey come in and go out. Then Athena called and called to get it back. If the cam had been a bit farther out we would have seen the band.

I have been reading all the pages about the happenings at the nest. I am so glad that there was a good out come for the pair. Up in Edmonton, last year they had to take a clutch of eggs and replaced it with a little one. They did great and so will this pair.. Only if all humans could be the same way.

Thanks for that story Westend old bird! As SGB and others have said, it's a win-win situation. Takes a little pressure off the donor nest, and allows the foster nest to complete it's nesting cycle.

There was a feeding around 6 p.m. Visibility slowly improving on the outdoor cam. Tomorrow forecast to be warm with some sun, maybe late day thunderstorms (quite different than today's misty rain, fog, and temperature in the mid to upper 50s).

Late day feeding yesterday in the mist:

Some images from this morning. They zoomed the cam out a bit, providing some great portraits of Athena (with a little feather stuck to her face :teehee: ). Much improved weather today: warm front went through this morning, ushering in sunshine and much warmer air. You can see Athena panting in the last pic.

Six spending some time with the chick early this afternoon. Haven't caught a feeding yet today, but haven't been watching as much as yesterday. Very hot and humid today, thankfully there's a breeze.

Caught a feeding around 3:30 p.m. Athena blocked the view, but it went on for at least 10 minutes before the chick was stuffed and Athena finished the rest.

Just had to drop by and see how the little one and parents are doing. From the crop size in some of the picture...doing well.
