He ain't Gene Kelly dancing in the rain, but he is Chief and stays calm - he knows his territory :ohyes:

Intruding female

Here's a video of this morning's intruder.

It's definitely a female and we think we can see a Darvic ring on her right leg when we freeze frame. Blue 24? Probably.

Still no sign of Glesni, Monty by himself still. Just hope these disruptions don't jeopardise the osprey's breeding this year - there will be an egg laying cut off point later this month.

....Monty in the rain is so beautiful :flirty: :flirty: and at the end....the train

09:15 Update

All calm again on the nest. Monty has brought in breakfast and Glesni has started doing funny things. We heard the same type of low volume contact calls just before egg laying last year.

It could be a good idea to enter the egg competition soon..

We love it at this time of year when we see a very gentle and tender side to osprey behaviour.
Glesni, a large bird of prey, top of the food chain predator, delicately scrunches her talons up into a ball so as not to damage her delicate developing eggs.
Wonderful, close up views of nature that until recently we had no idea was happening

DAY 18: Everyone has survived the thunderstorms overnight and is in one piece. Wet but unharmed.

We're half way through incubation now and the 24 hour protection volunteers are doing a fantastic job, thank you.

Here's an osprey photo you don't see everyday.

At precisely 00:06 and 32.79 seconds this morning, a huge lightning bolt struck the Dyfi estuary just metres away from the osprey nest. Glesni took it all in her stride.

Here's a snapshot of that fraction of a second.

DAY 25: Monty has been on cargo watch for the last couple of hours. He doesn't mind putting a long shift in now and again.
It's all water off a duck's back to him.

Image

DAY 27: The ubiquitous Blue 24 is still around on the Dyfi, but she seems less of a threat recently.
Both Monty and Glesni have been using the top of the camera pole as a look-out this week, spotting any approaching danger before it becomes a threat.
Looks like all three birds in this love triangle have set up boundaries and some rules over the last few weeks - each osprey knowing exactly how far to go and what response to elicit to particular actions and behaviours.

Hello?
Monty has got the Missus trying to feed him at the moment, what's going on here?
All will be revealed over the weekend

Displacement Behaviour: "Occurs when an animal experiences high motivation for two or more conflicting behaviours. The resulting displacement activity is usually unrelated to the competing motivations."

Glesni is now sensing that her chicks are nearing hatching. We can see very subtle changes in her behaviour and vocalisations.

How many can you spot?
