Here's a short video of Blue 24 making a nuisance of herself again today.
For the first time in weeks she actually landed on the nest - is she looking to damage the eggs/chicks?

17:50 No sign of any cracks in the eggs yet.
The wind is picking up and Monty has just taken over incubation duties. Heavy rain tomorrow, but only in patches.
Keep Calm and Look Down.

The crack in egg one is slightly larger by this evening, but Glesni is not budging from the nest so we can't get a better view for now!
Mind you, after her close encounter earlier this morning, who can blame her?

Here he/she is - fully out of the shell at 11:06, so let's call hatching at this time.
Many congratulations to Monty, Glesni and whoever has won the competition.
Not many dry eyes here at DOP. Video later this evening.

Oh, WOW!.

Hatched at 11:06 but looks to be a messy eater. We'll forgive him/her for now though as the eyes will not be properly functional for another day or two :sum4:

Here is the video then - a video of some truly memorable moments from the last 24 hours or so.
From the first crack in the egg yesterday afternoon, to the chick grappling and struggling its way out of its shell, to Glesni seeing her chick for the first time after Monty refused to let her have a look-in!
This video is dedicated to all those volunteers everywhere that help keep these nests safe and protect them from those that want to do harm. Each year your task is thankless and without pay, your rewards are seen in this video and also come with no monetary value. They are priceless.

There is a very clear hole in the shell now. You can see the tiny beak of the chick inside....

Sewin Supper

Monty caught a large sea trout earlier, but talk about being under the talon.
As soon as Glesni opens her beak, just look at him respond!
Both chicks eating well and bobbling away in the sun today - they look fit and healthy.

watch the video in full screen :egg8:

Goldilocks and the three fish
Here's one for the scientist inside all of us.

At 06:30 this morning there were three fish in the nest - all different species in various states of being eaten!

Glesni inspects the freshest fish first, then the next, ending with the least fresh fish which she then feeds to her chicks.

Was this intentional? Something to do with calories, proximity to the chicks, starting with the oldest fish first? Or was there no thought process there and it was completely random?

No fancy editing here - just as it happened.
