San Jose Falcons: January-April 2014

From this morning. FC with prey. Clara ran toward him bowing and carrying on. ( I cannot for the life of me understand why they can't get sound here) Anyway, he ate some of the prey, then took off with what was left. Maybe she had eaten earlier.

Another false alarm. Watched Clara forever go from one scrape to the other , puff up, look under for an egg, etc etc. Nothing. Then FC arrived and appeared to be checking to see if there was an egg, after they bonded. Clara flew out straight toward the camera, afterwards.

FC brings in good size prey and begins to defeather. Clara watches and bows, but finally comes over and accepts it and begins eating while FC watches every bite. She eats for a while, then takes it away. FC checks for scraps, then flies off too.

No egg yet this morning, but Clara was in the box. She's looking huge to me today.

Fernando just delivered breakfast on the louver. Looks like a nice sized pigeon.

Pretty sure Clara is in labor... 8:49AM PT.

She's scraping in the box, but very full down below and her vent feathers are spread out.

Now she's out of the box. I think Fernando is/was on the other side of the box, scraping around. She needs some peace & quiet to work on that egg!

He's so excited... I think it was over the weekend, they had a marathon bonding session in the box. Lots of beaking/mirroring, chupping. And when I say marathon, I mean like 8-10+ minutes!

Oh well.. I think she's ready, it's just going to take some time.

Poor Clara is back at it. She is very tired so this might be for real. Well haven't been here very long so there could be an egg already but I don't see one.
