:girlsad3: Yes my heart sank when I heard this mighty lady was being challenged.. She is the mother of O'Connor in Toronto, and Dori in Pittsburgh. I would say her daughters have inherited some of their "attitude" from Chesapeake.

Not looking good:

12-14-14 Update from Akron: I'm afraid it doesn't look promising for Chesapeake. First trip back to Akron since Tuesday when it was looking like a lop-sided fight favoring the new un-banded female... just saw the new female fly with prey up to a higher building and Mckinley landed next to her. No sign of Chessie so far. Going to look around and try not to miss if she's grounded somewhere, but the early indication is likely a changing of the guard here.

Oh, I do hope Chesapeake is OK.

I wasn't familiar with Chesapeake and didn't know she was mother to Dori and O'Connor but this is so sad to read. I've followed the saga on FB as it's unfolded..sorry to all who followed and loved her. :girlsad3:

OH NO!! I have been really under the weather & working a lot so I haven't been keeping up on some posts. This is so sad I just hope she is out there OK and going to go retire in the warm sun some where south.

On C&C's FB page:

12-15 Akron update: Just met a guy named Dirk who showed me a cell phone pic that he took of an adult falcon down on the ground in front of the Landmark building on Friday! He said he couldn't tell if the falcon was injured... she was "just standing there". He said he told maintenance at the Cascade building but is unsure of what happened from there. I'm going to connect with maintenance and see what they know. Meanwhile, Summit is perched on the First Merit antenna and Mckinley is on the First Merit letters at the moment. Almost forgot... Dirk said he'll post his cell phone pic to this page so check the "posts by others" if interested!

Pic is posted now.

Don't even get me started on that post...they've updated and said they don't think anyone did anything. It reminded me of Mariah, when she was driven to ground and stood there looking up. :tantrum2:

At least watchers saw Mariah down and rescued her..so sad nothing was done here. :sum7:

Maybe she can be like Freedom and EC & stay nearby but lay low. I also find it disturbing that someone nearby didn't check out the downed peregrine, but I guess most people don't understand the significance of a peregrine on the ground. Fingers crossed here.

:sorrow: :sorrow: :sorrow: So sad to lose Chesapeake like this.... Two things I will remember about Chesapeake - she was so beautiful, and so ferocious in defending her eyases on banding day. She had become so aggressive that last year DNR decided not to band her babies because she got so upset.... Rest in peace, Chesapeake.

Oh dear, this is terrible. Fly high Fly free dear Chessie.
Now I am going to wonder if her being grounded had anything to do with the Red Tail getting the best of her. Maybe she was wounded and she just wasn't found soon enough (or picked up that day) We will never know I'm sure.

C & C just filled in the "blanks" about Chessie's death...From their FB page: :girlsad3:

As anticipated, Chesapeake has reached the end. Her body was recovered in Akron after a witness saw her engaged in an aerial fight and then being overtaken on the ground by a red-tailed hawk. Thanks to DOW's Laurie for letting us know about Chesapeake's death personally and posting it to this page. RIP to a phenomenal peregrine!

Very sad. She might have used up her energy battling the other peregrine & didn't have enough left to defeat the hawk. :holsad:
