:loveshow: :loveshow: :loveshow: :loveshow: :loveshow: Louis brought 5 fish in today! He ate part of #5 on the pole before delivery, but twitter says Iris and the cam op caught him! He brought the rest to the nest. Here's a capture by A.Rhea of #2's crop after eating some of this last fish brought in:

Bonbon, They think Iris and Louis are fishing @ Rattlesnake Creek until the river conditions improve, I left the site a few minutes ago, but did not find a feed in the last 4 hours on the DVR and Twitter does not mention one so far today. It's raining again ...

:girlsad3: Louis brought in a small fish @ 1416. Chick #1 bonked then bit and jerked multiple times on 2's neck and 2 went into submission that lasted the entire feed and no fish for him. So, #1 ate most of the fish with Iris getting a few bites. Saw #1 swallow a fin for my 1st time seeing this. Louis remained on his stand for the duration. :egg14: There was an abrupt shaking of the cam that caused Iris to fly up with the fish still in her talons and quickly returning to the nest, landing on the opposite side. Then, the feed finished up. Louis seemed unfazed by the commotion. I know something @ least shook the cam as the raindrops on it elongated sideways, especially the low, center, one as it joined the smaller raindrop to it's right to become one. Interestingly, Twitter has not commented on this event. Did something run into the support the cam is on? Such as a car tapping the base, I don't know what set up they have with this. I think this happened @ 14:28:59.

Holy Cow, Swinwk….
I wasn't watching when the "earthquake" occurred - I rewound the video and jeeeeeze… I wonder what it was? At first I thought it was the cam op moving the cam too fast, but definitely not.
I agree - someone/something must have hit the pole holding up the cam. Watching the video after the shake-up, Iris continued to look a bit uncomfortable.

(maybe it WAS an earthquake...)

It didn't seem to bother Louis much, but he may be exhausted flying and fishing all day.

I checked the site for earthquakes in the last 24 hours and couldn't find anything, right after it happened. With Louis's non reaction and not being able to discern movement of objects in the background, I decided it was the cam itself. Not sure what this cam is mounted on here. Maybe something was impeding the cams movement and when the cam op tried moving the cam, it broke free and caused this violent jerking. If it was the cam op, that may be why there is no mention of event. :teehee:

I just went back 4 hours and no fish were brought in. About 4 hours ago, #1 still has a noticeable crop and #2 has none. As far as I can tell, #2 did not eat today. And Iris did not eat very much of the fish that #1 ate earlier today.:girlsad3:

11:27am (Montana time)
(Just clicked on)
Louis just brought a fish, with the tail end eaten. #2 was already flat and submissive several minutes before fish arrival (maybe Iris let them know that fish was on it's way. I didn't rewind to check).
Not a large fish(unfortunately).

Louis brought in the 1st fish of the day @ 11:24:47. #2 was resting near the side of the nest and did not bother to get up as it knows the routine. Iris fusses and clutches the fish and flaps her wings till Louis leaves the nest. Then, #1 is fed. So, I am going to back up to 7:19 this am when I scanned the DVR over the next 4 hours. Nobody has a crop as no fish have been brought in. But, I did witness something interesting. While #1 was preening early this morning, #2 explored the floor of the nest looking for dropped and missed particles of fish. He didn't find any. He also stands tall looking around for his Mother when Iris is off the nest. This gives me hope for #2's strength and resourcefulness to survive in what are extremely difficult circumstances for him!! :flirty:

Whoopee! #2 is eating, probably because #1's crop looks like it's going to burst! (Probably too full to bob it's sib!)

Well, it lasted till about 11:42 when the fish was gone. Did you see #2 turn away for a moment, shortly after the feed was started? I think when they have not had food for a long stretch and then they eat, something uncomfortable happens. But, he didn't let it hold him back for long. Just wish there could have been more left for him!

Thanks for the updates, Swinwk. I think you're right - they do look uncomfortable when they haven't eaten - maybe their little throat is dry (???).
Meanwhile, #1 looks like his crop is going to pop!

(I'll be in and out today.)

Quick click-in; Iris is away from the nest - the chicks have found their little voices!
They are both walking around the nest looking for her :teehee: :teehee:
#1 still has a nice crop, #2 itty bitty teeny crop. Can really see the size difference between the two.

Nothing more brought in. Saw on Twitter they believe Louis has caught 2 fish today. One for him and the one for his family, we saw earlier.

Went back on the DVR and caught up on twitter and no more fish were brought in today. Iris left twice in the last 4 hours, but was unable to catch a fish. I am wondering if the cam ops are keeping an eye on the public, possibly for someone bringing in fish to drop near the nest. Once in the last week, I have noticed them zeroing in on license plates to catch the numbers and it happened again tonight. Some lady let her 2 dogs out to run in the grass next to a building, while she pulled out a chair to sit in @ the far corner of the parking lot. Both times the cam ops have done this, the lot is usually empty, otherwise. Hoping 2 fish can be brought in the early morning, to give #2 a chance to eat. He is still hanging in there, in spite of just receiving a few bites today and nothing yesterday. Good thing Louis was able to bring in the 5 fish the day before none came in ...

EDIT TO ADD: Forget what I said about someone bringing in fish to drop near the nest. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong!! Even I couldn't come up with this as I have never witnessed a lazier way to run your dogs and to do so in a lot that has one end of it obviously blocked to protect a bird nest!! And yes I consider myself an expert with dogs. A lot of people think birds are my favorite, but no it's dogs. In my last group, I had 7 living in the house with me, ranging in weight from 12 lbs to 128 lbs. The youngest and only one still living of that group and now over 14 years is Ali Anna. And don't get any ideas Ali Anna, our "runs" will only be as fast as my crutch can propel us!! Now watch this video by Trudi Kron to see what's really up in identifying the same dark vehicle. This is from about a week ago:

Good Morning, Swinwk - Holy Cow - that video is horrible. Didn't like that at all. I think Maryland Animal Control would cite her. (Off topic, MD, a law was just passed saying that if you're going to tether a dog outside, you have to meet certain requirements... i.e., shade - protection from weather, etc.)

6am Montana time: Iris has been away from the nest. Early morning fishing trip?
Both chicks look ok, sure hope #2 eats today.

:15heartbeat:

My county:
Laws pertaining to tethering and other minimum requirements for dogs outdoors will be changing very soon in Anne Arundel County. We want dog owners to be prepared and have opportunity to correct conditions BEFORE we receive a complaint. Once the new law, passed at County Council last night and introduced by Councilman Grasso, goes into effect in 45 days after the County Executive signs several changes will occur to current laws. A few key highlights of changes are dogs may only be able to be tethered outside while in direct supervision of a person, separate shade (other than a dog house) either natural or manmade will be required, during the colder months an offset door or door with flap will be required and minimum enclosure sizes will now exist so dogs can get sufficient exercise.
