:buzzybee: The following comments are from my observations, my readings, my opinions only of course!!
:flirty: Halley has been doing very well since her fledge. She has even attempted to catch a fish that was caught on cam in front of the nest, but they are unsure if she was successful from the image. She attempted to spend the night on the nest perch recently that Rachel frequents, however she was spooked off during the night when an owl possibly landed on the cam(?) or something else making a noise and jarring the nest. Otherwise, she has slept elsewhere at a site unknown.

Steve brings many fish daily to her and Rachel on occasion brings a fish to her on the nest. Steve pretty much skedaddles after his fish deliveries d/t Halley's exuberance with incoming deliveries. He still brings sticks for the nest, much to Halley's dismay, earning him the moniker "Stevie Sticks"! Rachel even beak-fed Halley 2-3 days ago, although she has been self-feeding for some time now. Halley has a knack for loosing a fish overboard from the nest almost daily. It is more frequent than I can recall of any newly fledged osprey that I've witnessed. She is VERY VOCAL!

I don't think Rachel has been seen since Tuesday, but too soon to determine if she has left on her journey to South America. Rachel is within the window of her departures in the past, beginning the 1st week of August to the 1st week of September. She is adapting to the change her injury has caused to her left leg. However, even though the site has maintained it is a sprain or strain, there continues to be an obvious deformity in her left leg that sprains or strains do not cause, but fracture/fractures or dislocations do. I even wonder if it is a tibiotarsal fracture similar to Ma Berry's. Captures of the injury were sent to an animal care center by the site after seen, however they have not chosen to share the results so far. I asked about the results a couple weeks or more after they were sent and was told by the Mod that she would check on results, but there was never a response back. Rachel seems to be maintaining her weight, so she is obviously eating. Wish we could have received a confirmed report that she is able to land on a branch with a fish and successfully eat it from there before her migration, but so far there are not any reports of such. I don't know if otherwise she is eating off of flatter surfaces such as the rock formations sticking out of the water, the boat house nest, etc. We have seen her eat on her nest. She has been seen successfully fishing. On cam her most obvious struggle for me is attempting to walk across the nest. She has also adapted since her injury by perching using the right leg and with split second weight-bearing of the left leg on occasion when in the nest. She can hold a fish down in the nest with the right leg where as pre-injury she used the left leg for holding. It took her awhile to make this change. I really hope she continues to adapt as needed and has a safe and successful migration and return for next season. Following is a video of Halley perching in a couple different places by Arlene Beech. I especially love the close-ups of her perched in the tip-top of the tree!!

Edit to add at 1500: :5val: Rachel is still here as she brought a fish to Halley on the nest awhile ago!! :5val:

Rachel made a fish delivery this morning after an absence of about 3 days. This time, Steve did not skedaddle ... soon enough! Video is by Regina Hornung:

Thanks, SWINWK! You always share the most interesting things. Last year I took a photography workshop based in Rockland. We took a harbor cruise mainly to photograph lighthouses. When we went by Hog Island I wanted to yell "STOP THE BOAT! I WANT TO GET OFF!"

:egg19: I can not imagine myself on a boat and having to pass by Hog Island without stopping, gigi! If this had been me, the other passengers would be yelling: "STOP THE BOAT! CRAZY LADY OVERBOARD!!" :egg13:

:5val: And here is a video of Rachel this morning on the nest after a several days absence, proving she has not left on migration as I was beginning to believe she had! Also, Halley and Steve show up!! Wonderful late season video capture by Arlene Beech ... Congratulations!!

:7val: The following is the documentation by Poppy the mod on the last known visits of this osprey family.

Rachel wasn’t on the nest since Tuesday, September 3

"A Herring for Rachel at 10:17 am EDT - Hog Island Osprey Nest 2019 09 03"

Halley was on the nest for a morning visit on September 12 at 7:17 am

"Sept 12, 2019 0717 Halley visits the perch" Video by Christine Saucier.

Steve delivered the last stick around 11:10 am, on September 12

"Steve's Focus is on Sticks, today, not on Mackerels - Hog Island Osprey Nest 2019 09 12"

Osprey Season 2019 has come to an end. This is the updated Nest History Chart for 2019 and previous seasons:

"Audubon Hog Island Osprey Nest History"

~

Hoping all 3 of them had a safe migration to South America and Rachel and Steve return to their nest next April. And Rachel I hope you continue to adapt and adjust to your injury ... Please return to us!! :5val: SWINWK

Oh my! There is a miscellaneous Osprey thread. Charlo isn't mentioned, but I would imagine it would be okay to post here.

:eggthumb: Thanks, gigi! I found that and did post it over there, but I don't think anybody follows Charlo. I didn't know Canada Geese goslings could jump that far to the ground, but they can. I have only seen ground nests.

:1val: All cams down at Hog Island since early this morning. From Poppy the mod:

All cams are on highlights at the moment - most probably caused by a power outage due to the storm. Depending on whether it is just an issue with the camp’s facilities or a bigger issue in the hands of the power company, we will be back sooner or later. So please be patient! We all are in the same boat, HI staff and cam fam alike: We are eager to see the very first glimpse of Rachel and Steve!

I follow Charlo, Iris & others - you can watch the Owls over the winter and O's in summer :) @ Charlo

:eggthumb: Beth! I did notice the owls at Charlo and enjoyed some of the videos I found in their chat here over the winter. Loved listening to them talk to each other. The goose is getting snowed on at Charlo right now. The power outage is widespread over Maine per the mod. It may be awhile before we get the cam back (highlights now) at Hog Island, but eventually we will. It's a shame though that it is happening in the middle of the window for Rachel and Steve's return.

Power situation's improved! Just informed our tech group. However, I'm not sure whether somebody is needed on site, to do some twisting...

:1val: New gal has shown up at Hog Island and Steve is nervous for now. He has been on the nest with her at least a couple times mantling. But, this one seems to be claiming this nest. She is not budging!! Rachel still has not returned from migration.
