Glaslyn, Wales: July 9 - Eldest chick KC2, now 50 days old, has spent a lot of time looking over the edge of the nest the past couple of days and found a small post to practice perching on. This morning she looked up at the sky for several minutes before helicoptering almost as high as the top of the camera. At 14:48 this afternoon she took her first short flight around the back of the nest before safely landing. She was joined briefly in the sky by mum, Mrs G.

Today the fledging window has also opened for KC3, who is now 49 days old. How long until he takes to the skies?

Glaslyn, Wales: 15 July

Here is a video of the moment KC3 fledged this morning.

KC3 nearly landed on Mrs G on many occasions during his maiden flight and displaced KC2 who was on the perch before managing to land safely. It is fair to say his first flight was quite the adventure!

Amazing video, enjoy it

Dyfi, Wales: Both boys have successfully fledged.

On Tuesday morning nobody was really expecting a fledge. Neither Tywi (KC7, the oldest brother) nor Teifi had been 'helicoptering', a behaviour typically seen as a definitive prerequisite to fledging.

Tywi had clearly not read the rule book.

At just before 9am he took off from the nest and landed on the camera pole above; a controlled flight to a perch outside the confines of the nest - so an official fledging.

° TYWI FLEDGES - 08:52 on 14th July. He fledged at 48 days, 16 hrs and 22 mins old

° TEIFI FLEDGES - 07:15 on 20th July. He fledged at 52 days 18 hours 41 minutes old

Loch Arkaig, Scotland:

At 05:19 on Friday 24th July the female Loch Arkaig osprey chick, Vera (JJ8) fledged the nest.
It was a proud moment for all nest cam viewers as the middle chick took her first flight!

At 08.11 on Friday 24th July the youngest male Loch Arkaig osprey chick, Captain (JJ7) fledged the nest.
Now the nest is empty as the whole family takes to the sky!

Dyfi, Wales:

31Juli - We're pretty sure that the intruder that we see most days around the Dyfi is
our own Aeron, Monty and Glesni's son from 2017.
The good news is we think he is travelling around with a female. H
ere he is just 12 miles away yesterday on the Clywedog nest.
(Usual disclaimer: we have other nest platforms up
and there are plenty of nesting sites around).

1 August - Full House.

We've reached our fifth month of the breeding season;
August is when our ospreys start to fly south.
They won't go yet though - probably the end of the month or early September.

August is a time to be thankful that these beautiful birds have been successful,
raised two healthy boys, and enriched all of our lives during these tumultuous and often depressing times.

A update from the Manton Bay nest - Monday 10 August 2020

... the chicks are getting ready to migrate...

Throughout the weeks after fledging the young Ospreys have been making
more and more exploratory flights around the nest site at Manton Bay.

They will sometimes venture further afield and be away for a few hours or sometimes days.
Two of our youngsters did exactly this, one – 080 - returned after five days away.
The other youngster 082 has not yet returned and we think it has decided
to leave early on migration, this will occasionally happen.

Maya's not sharing with the youngsters!

Action in and around the Manton Bay nest - as the youngster 081 leaves the remains of a trout in the nest,
Maya flies in with 080 but is clearly not interested in letting the fledgling share the fish.
