Carolyn posted on the Mayo Clinic page that the resident male, Orton was found injured in downtown Rochester Wednesday. He is in rehab with a broken keel.

oh my . I love orton. he had to fend off an intruder this year, so hopefully it was not due to that intruder being back

Sad news to report from the Mayo Clinic on 7/14:

We’re sorry to share the news that Annabelle, one of this year’s four fledglings, was found dead this morning on the ground next to the Mayo Building. She had a pigeon carcass right beside her, so our guess is that she was hunting and misgauged something in flight and hit the building. While this is difficult news, it is typical of the trials young falcons face during their first year. Experts estimate that three out of four falcons do not survive until their first birthday. Below are photos taken today of Annabelle’s siblings (Nadya, Glory and Orville) who are doing very well.

:15heartbeat: Brooks Falls Camp (where the very popular Brown Bear Cam is located) is closing to all visitors at midnight tonight due to COVID-19. Several rangers and staff have tested positive and have been flown out to quarantine. This despite having quarantined for 2 weeks and being tested prior to their arrival to camp this spring and strict guidelines during their time here. The camp already did not allow overnight guests, but did allow day visitors. It is felt it was brought to area from visitors and/or guides who I believe had to have negative tests and no symptoms prior to being flown in. It is to be closed at least till August 10th and I would be surprised if they are able to open to guests then. Such a remote area and with strict COVID-19 restrictions really drives home that if it is HERE it is everywhere. It left me very saddened.

At the peregrine nest of the University of Montréal (Canada) an interaction between the two resident youngs and a young peregrine from another nest was observed on July 10. The intruder was tolerated by the adults. More details can be found on the Montréal topic. If you know past examples of such an early interactions between fledglings of 2 different nests, I am interested to read you (maybe it is preferable to answer in the Montréal topic). Thanks
