....... As EJ shelters the eggs from the snow flurry, she is rapidly disappearing under a blanket of snow and now resembles an osprey shaped snowman...........

.............A persistent male osprey has been staking out the nest and Odin has been doing his best to see it off. This morning he returned to the nest with a pink smear on the white feathers at the top of his leg. At first it looked like he’d had a messy meal with a fish, but when we got a closer look, we could see a small gash on his leg. So we can only assume that he has been in a tussle with the intruding bird and a stray talon has nicked his leg.............

Sky Wars

Odin’s woes continue. The injury to his leg is looking better today, and the snow has cleared however the battle with the rival male is not yet over. The intruder has continued to harass the nest and is clearly vying for EJ’s attention. Odin has kept close to the nest, and to EJ, but the other male is not giving up.......

Whilst writing this blog, the intruding male has returned and landed on the nest! EJ elbowed him to the edge of the nest until he fell out and flew into the camera tree. He again flew onto the nest and again EJ kicked him out, and he hasn’t been back again since then.

Glesni was completely taken by surprise by this fleeting barn owl who flew within a whisker of her whilst she incubated her three eggs.

Just goes to show how quiet the barn owl is - this bird is also ringed (look on the left leg)
