On the video, you can hear 2 comments being made about something not looking right. I'm pretty sure that he said "hallux" in the 1st comment, and he made reference to the toes in the 2nd comment. The hallux is the toe that points backward.

they must have thought it would be O.K. that they put her back .

I am also wondering about the significance of the comments regarding the baby's hallux/back toes. The report on Kate's blog mentioned "no deformities", so that is encouraging!

Thank you for the video! At about 2:18 he says "The ____ on this bird does not look right." Can anyone tell me what the missing word is? And was he talking about Dorothy or the chick?

I think he said pelvis.

I thought is was pelvis too but then I listened again and it could have been hullux. I googled that and this is what I got -

"the first or innermost digit of the foot of humans and other primates or of the hind foot of other mammals; great toe; big toe.
2.
the comparable, usually backward-directed digit in birds."

I had to step out and missed it all. Will check videos later, heading to train station to pick up my Mom. My heart is overjoyed to see him back where he belongs. I am choking up! Honestly, I was afraid to check the cam, but I did, then I came straight here. :woohoo:

I know they said they think it's a male, but what is the sense from the pro's here? I'd like it if we could all decide whether to say he or she...lol

On some blogs they have been referring to him as "Fuzzy". And I can't remember where I saw this, but someone had suggested that he be named "Flip". But -- they don't name them in PA.

Personallly, I like "Flip", since he overcame the challenge of flipping over!

The back talon, known as the hallux, is often longer than the other three forward-pointing talons. When a raptor catches its prey, the raptor will typically push the large hallux through its prey. This kills the prey and also helps the raptor get a better grip for carrying the prey away.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A peregrine falcon chick hatched just over 2 weeks ago in Oakland and has received a lot of attention.

Dr. Wagner is hoping that progress continues. He thoroughly examined the chick after officials with the Game Commission brought the bird inside.

“So, we definitely have a weaker, slower-developing bird with a lot of parasite damage,” Dr. Wagner said.

The bird was treated for the parasites using a powder and other medication.

There is some feather damage and the bird is weaker and weighs less than it should at nearly three weeks old, but overall, officials with the Game Commission decided to leave it in the wild for now.

well I guess sometimes it is a wait and see. when ours were treated for parasites a few years back. Gord kept 2 to develop as they were too far behind to leave in box. they were given supplements for a long time, but I guess each one does what they feel best

I am hopeful fo r this wee one

another feed. It will never get mobile LOL
