The Northern half of Ohio had terrible windstorms yesterday. Toledo reports a roof damaged at a school, and trucks flipped onto their sides, and the loss of power. I see some scattered reports of damage at BG. The bad news is they are expecting high winds again tomorrow!

This was taken by the FB Toledo group this morning. I tried to catch a pic with the egg and failed, so she must have kicked it offscreen! :egg14:

4/10-26...
Sad news yesterday from the Sanctuary: “Unfortunately I have the worst news possible. After much physical therapy and exercise, Mary Ann's injuries are too severe for a successful release to the wild, nor can she become a permanent education ambassador due to pain and discomfort. The elbow joint has thickened and calloused, preventing correct range of motion. Mary Ann was peacefully and humanely euthanized this morning.

I thought professor had bands and female none.
I do no t like to contradict Toledo but it was banded on in storm and unbanded that came in . so that makes male on nest during storm. I knew I did not see an exchange but I like to be sure.

Thanks Bev...

Yesterday from the Breaking News thread...thanks SgB
Potential problems. They fear the female, Ginger, is sick...possibly with Avian flu..If anyone has any viewing time, they are asking for documentation on the Toledo Facebook page...

Woodmen, NE several years ago had the same situation.

:loveheart: Just saw an egg duty exchange, and everything looked pretty normal. Both male and female looked well, but the lady from Toledo Peregrine Project has said there maybe another female falcon involved?

The latest from the Toledo Peregrine Project:

I’m going to throw this idea out there, though it seems crazy. Could the female now brooding the eggs be a new falcon? I saw several telltale avian flu symptoms, starting last evening with mouth breathing - see pic. In the morning it was serial sneezing, trembling and head-twisting. ODNR concurred. I’m all for miracle cures, but I don’t see any signs of illness in the bird who’s probably on the eggs for the night. Lord knows there are always opportunistic PFs out there, but her easy behavior entering the nest and claiming the eggs would be hard to believe in a different bird. Any stories from other nests? P.S. I’m done for the night - too much drama, tired out.

I am not saying observer at Toledo did not see something with female but the bird I am observing is the same female and whatever was going on ( it could have been over heated , they said it had Ben warm ) seems to have corrected.
I will keep recorder on when I can.
I am not an expert but have had to watch a few of our peregrines pass from avian flu, for documentation for our biologist. This disease progresses, starts off slow , and then increases rapidly.

They also thought it was female on in storm and it was not, It was male. Glad I had taped

But as a precaution, I will watch a few days. My time is limited
