OH NO!!

Does anyone have any insight as to why Tom and Audrey are leaving the eggs unattended or is the crow literally chasing them off the nest? Crows aren't stupid and they can be so relentless. :girlsad3:

Sky, I have read many of the comments. A general consensus is Tom has not provided as well this season. One poster said the biologist mentioned earlier this season, he may be providing for 2 nests. Another frequent comment is all of the rains may have impacted fishing. Audrey has had to fish for herself a few times since incubation.

Darn-Darn-Darn....
What a shame... 4 (5?) years ago, I discovered this cam and ospreys (I thought the Chesapeake Conservatory cam was the ONLY cam in the whole world (honest!).)
I read all of the old blogs (and everything I could find about ospreys). One summer day, years ago, the COM and COG (Crazy Osprey Girl) went on a boat ride to count the nests nearby. In a small radius, they spotted 15+ osprey nests! Now imagine how many nests (competition) there are now! Add the cold, sometimes rainy weather, and it could be that intruders and difficulty fishing contributed to their strange behavior this season.
I think it's also strange that the nest never seemed to be as full of sticks as it has in the past.
Plus - obviously, there's a lot going on off-camera that we don't see (and even the COF can't see).

Craig Koppie said, "That's Nature!"

(I also don't think the drone helped the situation either!)

Incubating now and calling for a fish. Let's see what happens ...

What drone? This is the first time I'm seeing this.

I wonder when the incubation resumed? Last eve while I observed no incubation, I could hear a bird, probably on the white trashcan over the cam. Was it one of them or a bigger bird of prey? This afternoon/evening I saw many visits from Tom with sticks and they both were doing restorations. I read somewhere following a big storm, they had never rebuilt what had blown away. He also brought her a headless fish and she flew off the nest to eat. In the meantime, Tom incubated. I even saw the sparrow going into it's nest on the right. I really hope there are surviving hatchlings in their nest to care for. I guess the big question is, when did she resume incubation?

Looking in on the nest, I see Tom is staying the night on the right of the nest, his favorite post! :15heartbeat:

Excerpt from Capital Gazette report:

The viability of the remaining egg is in question, Couser said, as there was a second crow attack Sunday. She said the conservancy is hopeful the remaining egg is still fine. They will know if it can still hatch in a couple weeks.

Good morning. Tom & Audrey fans, many of you have noticed, and the Crazy Osprey Family confirmed this morning that the third egg has now cracked and is not viable. It is disappointing!

A crow was just on the nest stealing nesting materials! No osprey in sight.
