Where are these cups coming from. Yesterday there was 1 on cam..and now 2...and why are they appearing now? :egg16:

Strange...

The nest was overridden with ants. The cups have boric acid which will hopefully rid the nest of the ants. There is not much more they can do about the ants! I should have mentioned this the other day when I spoke to Connie but it slipped my mind (which is easy enough to do LOL) Sorry! I guess viewers were reporting the ants; I never noticed them..........

This was posted on Peregrine Place FB page this past Thursday:

Also, the DEC placed three plastic cups containing borax in the nestbox in hopes of ridding the box of ants. They contacted many places first for the most effective way of handling the situation in an active nest. The ants need to take the Borax back to their nest.
Another item: The DEC will thorougly clean out the active nest boxes this fall, and replace the gravel.

WOW...thanks Sally and Kris....I didn't notice the ants either..but, that doesn't mean much..LOL... :egg19:

I'm gonna try this at home!! Anybody know if this works?

my neighbor tried it and it did not work we are trying to drown them out but I think I will have a lake soon and them they will just build leaf boats LOL

I 'scrubbed' my floors with vinegar (poured it Everywhere); Seemed to work fairly well, but also put a bunch of traps outside (couldn't put them inside because of my kitty).
(I also vacuumed the ants - everytime I saw them, I sucked the buggers right up!)
(cleanest floor in Maryland - right here!)

Someone commented, under the Peregrine Place post, that the Borax powder needed to be mixed with sugar..that the sugar attracts the ants then they carry the Borax back to the nests whch kills the ants. The comment under that was they wouldn't want sugar in the nest box.

Yes, we mix borax and sugar together and put it on the ant hills. It seems to work! :smilehat:
