Thanks Carly....I actually took a pic, but no time to post or pursue what the heck was going on...I did keep the cam up for quite a while before I had to leave, and all appeared calm...hope it stayed that way for the rest of the time..

After Spirit left yesterday morning, looking upset, (see the pics on their FB page, she did not return until late evening, after dark. I have a scap of her switching with him at 20:32 05 pm (cam time stamp).
She left again this early morning, (2/29), (she pooed in the nest overnight, and on one egg it is coated in poo), and has not been back since. Eole has done better staying on the eggs today than yesterday. He only took short breaks.
I see nothing posted on their FB page about him being the only one there during the day yesterday or today. Are there ground watchers there?
I did see the cam operator tried to find him when he left the nest on his breaks he took, so surely they are aware?

Hi,

There are some territorial battles that are going on with a pair of unidentified peregrine falcons.
On April, 17, I watched an amazing but also frightening show by the 4 peregrines. The most spectacular action was when 2 falcons (the females, I think) made contact while in flight, and then fall together toward the ground with their feet being entangled! They apparently were able to disengage at the last moment, but one falcon was seen on the ground for several minutes after that, before flying away. The next day the camera showed Spirit with an injury at her beck. 4 falcons were again seen on April, 27 but this time I saw no midair contacts. But as you have already noticed, Éole came back with an injury.

I was there again yesterday during a part of the afternoon but could not see any intruder. Spirit was watching from the top of the tower.

I did not notice that Eole was so long in the nest and I thank Matrix for his/her observations. Maybe this is so because the female intruder is presently more active than the male intruder?

WOW, Sphinx5!! Thank you so much for those observations!! I hate to hear such battles are taking place...but, especially at such a critical time during incubation!! We've already seen the effects of territorial disputes at several other nests this season!!

I won't be around much on Saturday, but maybe others will be able to keep an eye on the cam and at least document what they are seeing...

They have a little over a week to go before hatching...I sure hope all of this doesn't mess things up...And I certainly hope nobody gets seriously injured during all of this...

This Morning here is what I've seen via the archives, and... thanks to the two being banded.

Spirit did return sometime last night. Here she is leaving the nest early again. Note the lump on her head, her cere, the blood n feather mix on her "face" and Her left foot is swollen at the junction of the toes, and looks like a bite mark at the same area. After she left, the eggs were uncovered for a time, with Eole making an appearance just to the left of the screen with food. A few minutes later, he got on the eggs. As of 8:30 am he is still there.

I made it to the archives too late as all I saw were eggs and Eole coming in.....

I hope today is calmer and maybe back to normal...
