Banding this morning:
Short video of Lady Victory getting her bands. female - S/31 (black over blue band) - Lady Victory. This is purely an Indianapolis themed name. If you didn't know or never noticed, Lady Victory sits in the heart of downtown Indianapolis - she’s the one holding the golden torch on top of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Over the years, this spot has been a favorite for the Falcons to roost and survey the Circle scene, especially when the young ones are learning to fly. It makes for a magnificent centerpiece for a magnificent bird and a good first place for volunteers to look for Falcons. This young lady was EXTREMELY vocal.
male - S/32 (black over blue) - Slick. Named for the late, legendary Indiana Pacers coach, Bobby ‘Slick’ Leonard. And these Falcons - they are indeed Slick! Try rescuing one off the street and you’ll know why.
male - S/33 (black over blue) - Chipin (as in chip in). This name is in honor of all the volunteers, DNR professionals, government officials, scientists across the globe and the supportive public who have chipped in their time, dollars, sweat, tears and determination to see that the reintroduction of the peregrine Falcon was a huge success. Over 30 years ago, the reintroduction project started across many states. In 1999, the peregrine falcon was removed from the endangered species list. So every little bit of chipped in effort paid off handsomely. Indianapolis has had some extremely dedicated and wonderful group of volunteers for so many years.
