Chip has jumped up on the roof of the nestbox. I see his tail appear and disappear… Elaine is preening on the porch.

:egg19: Chip is quite the adventurer, T! I see he has since made it safely back down from the roof and is hanging out with Elaine.

Interesting morning- it seemed Chip and Elaine spent much of their time on the roof. Elaine did come down to find a snack of prey, which she finished. And Chip jumped down on the perch while flapping his wings. Then they both jumped on the roof again. What I saw next was kind of curious. Mom came in to the nestbox 3 times with prey, but she didn’t find anyone there, so she left. Can the kids access the roof area of the building, and be playing somewhere out of sight?

:eggthumb: T, the nest box is on 4 stilts and the roof of the nest box appears to be about 6' from the roof of the building. So if they jumped off their nest roof onto the roof of the building, they would have to fly back, but there is plenty of space down there for them to roam. I saw both on the porch as darkness fell this evening.

:egg8: I was able to get there from the usual link. I went back to see if offline temporarily and did not notice anything. Here's the link:

:grwelcom And Welcome to BCAW, pamelah! Do you live near this nest? (I see you joined in 2015, but have not met you and you have 1 post.)

I live in Hamburg Michigan. I was born and raised in South Bend. Moved to New Orleans in 1975 and then to Michigan in 1979. I love to watch the Falcons in South Bend and the Eagles in Fort Myers.

:egg19: Great pamelah, I thought you might have ties to South Bend. Both nests you mentioned I also follow and both suffered tremendous losses this season or last. My Father's brother left Kentucky in the 50's and moved just down the road from you in Ann Arbor and my Mother was born and raised a little farther down in Adrian. I hope you are able to get the South Bend cam now. Currently, Elaine and Chip are both in the nest and I did get to see Mom twice today!

:loveheart: No chicks in view right now, but in pulling back the DVR, I found one perched on the “side wall” flapping their wings like crazy. Pulling it back a little further I see one, Elaine? (her feet look big) hopping back and forth between the nest box and the floor. And I think it was Elaine who spent the night in the nest box. Has Chip fledged and now Elaine is lonely?
:hithere: Nice to meet you, Pamelah!

:5val: I am wondering if both have fledged as a quick stroll down the DVR from 7 am to 7 pm, I did not see any falcons whatsoever. I believed it was Elaine that I was seeing on the porch through the night last night. And oh my, what a crop she had as if she were the only one being fed yesterday.

:loveheart: Elaine was in view briefly this morning, also. Seemed like she suddenly appeared on the perch (has she fledged?) she is big and beautiful! She paused on the perch for a minute or two, jumped in the nestbox for a couple of seconds, then hopped on the ledge and was gone.

:eggthumb: Saw that T! A little < 5 hours ago saw Mom come in (no prey) and down into the nest, then up onto the rail at the far end and looked as if she flew down to the roof of the building the nest box stands on. Then Elaine flies up from the roof of the building to the same spot on the rail Mom took off from and down into the nest, maybe to check if Mom left any goodies, then back onto the porch and out of sight. Nothing since and I have not seen Chip. Hoping he is okay out there. Not seen Dad recently.

:eggthumb: About 6 hours and 15 minutes ago a juvie arrived on the porch, then down into the nest and vocal and back up to the porch. Mom arrived and went down into the nest and the juvie turned toward her and remained very vocal. The juvie went down into the nest and Mom came out and flew, but came right back and down into the nest and then back onto the porch and walked out of view. Then the 2nd juvie showed up and went down into the nest and right back up onto the porch and started preening. The one in the nest laid down awhile, then up onto the porch and out of view. The one preening eventually flew up onto the nest roof. Then one walked into view and back into the nest and up to the porch and walked out of view. A juvie returned in view and this time with prey that it ate on the porch and the 2nd juvie showed up and down in the nest and eventually both gone with one returning later. None were seen per cam at night fall. On cloudy days the cam view is almost as poor for viewing as at night making iD's difficult, but I thought the 1st juvie might be Elaine and the 2nd Chip.

:eggthumb: Could only go back on the DVR for 12 hours, so started viewing at about noon their time. Kept seeing 1 or 2 of them throughout the afternoon and evening. Both were there at dark. Elaine lying on the nest floor and Chip on the porch. After it had been dark awhile, Chip decided to harass his sister by leaning down from the porch pulling at her feathers with his beak, then he reached down with 1 foot and grasped with his talons her feathers. She stood and had to walk away with him still trying to hang on and then she was able to free herself. She then went up onto the porch to join him and it looks as if both are spending the night.

:egg8: Scanned through the DVR twice today and did not see any juvies, but did find one adult. I think it was Mom who came into the nest and removed a bit of prey and flew out with it.

:eggthumb: Approx an hour and a half ago, saw a juvie fly up from the roof of the building (probably) and land on the end of the rail. Only stayed a couple of minutes and lightened it's load, then flew out headed away from the nest.

:eggthumb: Later on, Mom arrived and went down into the nest and made the motions of digging out a scrap a few times and then up onto the porch and stood. Eventually she walked out of sight. Did not see anymore visits today.
