Oh no, he looks so pained in the picture. I hope I am wrong about that. Or maybe that perch was especially awkward for him, I have seen it up close and it is rather narrow. Also it's only two or three stories off the ground, so maybe he was having trouble gaining altitude that day. This has really been a challenging year for this nest.

I have been going downtown but have not seen anyone at all for a while now, I'll try again tomorrow.

I emailed Carole and here is her response.

"The youngster is here and we see him when we go down each evening for "Bed check."
The leg is definitely injured and the problem, of course, is that he's well flighted so he's
up on high. He and the female sibling go to night roost in the same spot but there's no
way of trapping a bird who has not had a lengthy time of hunting - they won't be at-
tracted to a pigeon in a trap like a bird who's been out there for awhile. Both chicks
were new hunters when this all happened but we don't know if he's good enough to
go it on his own when Zeus quits supplementing them. Just have to wait and see."

THANKS GIGI! AT LEAST HE IS STILL ALIVE AND FUNCTIONING AND FOLLOWING HIS ROUTINE!!! I SURE HOPE THIS WORKS OUT FOR HIM SOMEHOW. GLAD TO HEAR THEY ARE DOING "NIGHT CHECKS" AND SEEING BOTH JUVIES AND THAT DAD IS HELPING TO SUPPLY FOOD STILL! I STILL CHECK THE CAM SEVERAL TIMES A DAY AND SEE NOTHING.

Thank you so much gigi and Carole for the info, I have really been wondering about the male. It's good to know that he is flying at normal altitude and is with family. (Not that family means the same thing to him as it would to us, but he is still a juvenile and has needs. ) I assume this means he is eating also. Zephyr learned to hunt with one foot, so even if this guy's leg does not heal right, maybe he has a chance. I am rooting for him and hoping he is a tough bird.

Zeus spotted on the nest box perch tonight at 7:30 pm !

He was looking around and doing a bit of preening also. Adult plumage was clear in the light. He looked pretty calm. I watched for about half an hour. During this time two cleaning ladies came off duty and were excited to see me watching. They said that they heard the falcons every day and were current on all the South Bend Tribune reports. They were also pretty excited to get their first ever look at a falcon with binoculars.


Oh, and my cat was not well behaved ALL of the time in the cellar. He had a few short episodes of "let me out" clawing, but the feel of being in my lap, hearing my voice and his long time trust in me won the day. He is the same cat who followed me from car down walkway to a strange house in a howling blizzard, so he is used to "adventures with the human".

Thank you Gigi for the good news that people are looking after the juvie as best they can. It eases some of the worry that I had.... And Zeus has been spotted - that's something to celebrate!!

THANKS FOR GOING DOWN TO CHECK ON THE FALCONS SBWATCHER AND I'M GLAD YOU GOT TO SEE ZEUS! I THINK IT'S GREAT YOU SHARED THE BINOCULARS WITH THE LADIES, SO THEY COULD ENJOY SEEING ZEUS TOO. YOUR CAT OBVIOUSLY LOVES YOU IF HE IS WILLING TO FOLLOW YOU IN A BLIZZARD. NOT VERY MANY CATS FOLLOW THEIR OWNERS, ONCE THEY ARE OUTSIDE. WHERE'S OUR PIC, SKYGIRLBLUE? THIS HAS BEEN A LONG TIME COMING ... I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I SAW ZEUS @ THE NEST!!!

I really am curious about this site... Is their an unusual amount of guy wires (support wires) on some really tall tower (s) (cell, communication, etc..) nearby??

SKYGIRLBLUE, DID YOU FORGET TO POST YOUR PIC OF ZEUS?

I saw him within the time window of SGBs pics. He was actually on the perch, looking relaxed after a day of parenting. I saw no one today, but I think they don't always come home in the afternoons.
