When I asked Carole about him about 10 days ago:
"The youngster is here and we see him when we go down each evening for "Bed check."
The leg is definitely injured and the problem, of course, is that he's well flighted so he's
up on high. He and the female sibling go to night roost in the same spot but there's no
way of trapping a bird who has not had a lengthy time of hunting - they won't be at-
tracted to a pigeon in a trap like a bird who's been out there for awhile. Both chicks
were new hunters when this all happened but we don't know if he's good enough to
go it on his own when Zeus quits supplementing them. Just have to wait and see."

Well, is this new "fresh" prey, or has the old prey been moved around?

It looks like it is in a different position, so someone has been up there. Whether bird or human, I don't know.

Well that was something I did not think about. We had awful storms with ferocious winds here in Indy last night.
Should have figured. Thanks SGB! :teehee: It is still there...

Well I don't know what to think, that thing looks like it has been moved and maybe nibbled on it is a lot redder than it was this morning and it isn't where it was. I have to go to work so maybe someone can look & see if I'm right or just wishing.

BEV, WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON IT WAS FURTHER AWAY ON PORCH AND REALLY LOOKED NOTHING LIKE A BIRD. I EVEN WONDERED IF IT WAS A PIECE OF TRASH THAT BLEW UP THERE. THEN LATER AS IT GOT A LITTLE CLOSER, IT LOOKED LIKE A PART OF A MUSSEL. THEN THE HARD EDGE MOVED UP AND DOWN WITH THE WIND SEPARATE FROM THE UNIT AS A WHOLE AND I JUST DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. IN TIME YOU COULD SEE THE FEET. WHOEVER, IS BARE-HANDED AND MAYBE THEY USED SOMETHING SO AS NOT TO TOUCH IT AS THE CHEST AREA WAS OPEN. KITTEN, THE ONLY THING I HAVE SEEN EATING IT ARE THE FLIES! :egg16:

Bev., what do you mean "put on something"?

When the hand appeared this post Monday, "it" appeared to do more than just reposition the prey. Maybe it plucked a few feathers, etc. If its there as part of a trap, then I would think it has to be attached to something to spring that trap..but, I'm clueless as to how that would even work..

All I've seen are flies..and I've had this cam up a bunch...

it looks like it is on a tray or shell or something.

it is just strange and all I have seen is flies and wasps

see under it.

If someone put it there they need to get rid of it. no falcon will go near that, i am sure

I am sure it is no worse than stashes that they birds keep. I have seen some pretty nasty stuff on the back side of Market Tower where Kinney used to put stuff.

:egg16: YOU ALL, I THOUGHT IT WAS A SUPPLEMENT FEEDING FOR THE INJURED JUVIE. AND I THINK BEV SAYS A FALCON WON'T GO NEAR IT BECAUSE IT DOES LOOK LIKE SOMETHING UNDER IT. GIGI, MAYBE YOU COULD E-MAIL CAROL AND ASK. :egg14: SEEMS LIKE THIS WOULD BE A PRECARIOUS LOCATION FOR A TRAP ... ESPECIALLY FOR ONE ALREADY INJURED. :egg19:

I'm almost positive there is nothing under it...I had over 8 hours of recordings for this cam the other day...while it was flopping around in the wind..I saw nothing but the prey and the ledge underneath it Of course, I don't know if anything was added yesterday or today...I was having issues with the cam going off line..(or maybe it was my internet..who knows)

As far as the flies/bees go, I Personally wouldn't go near it...LOL..but, you're probably right, gigi, their pantries probably look worse. I actually thought it may have been placed there for Zeus to use...but, I haven't even seen him...

they do not have a sense of smell so that would nto bother them. thanks SGB for the clarification. It really looke d like something was underneath, but hat makes sense.

i only said they would nto go near it, if it was something. They are pretty smart.

fingers crossed for the young male. we have seen female eagles here this year with injured legs and they healed . (delta and berry) .
