Dad made the mistake of entering without food..

After exploring the box for a few minutes (after Dad left), she hopped back up.

Needless to say, she is no longer in the above location

Oh my, she looks like a young robin with all those speckles! :dancing3:

I saw an adult on the building corner last night about 7:15 pm, but (s)he had vanished by the time I got my binocs .......

5:03 am, the baby is sleeping on the ledge, head inward.
5:21, so still and peaceful ...... 5:22 (exactly)
oh my she wakes up, open eyes, moving her little head but still hunched down, and I see, for the first time ever, her distinctive dark cheek marks. Definitely a peregrine, this one. ( As though there was any doubt. )
5:25 back to sleep for the little bird. :zzzzz
5:47 Baby is up and gone off-camera. :sprint
What watching adventures will this day bring?

6:41 Guinevere is on the ledge with a large ball of meat, feeding the off-camera baby. Baby eats the whole thing, drifting partially into cam view during the process. All done in a few minutes and Guinevere flies off. Early morning hunting gives the parents of a single chick some time to relax in the late afternoons and evenings. Or perhaps they need to watch her and plot ways to keep her from playing with the local crows and pigeons.

6:49 Someone is on top of the nest box. I can see tail feathers. Could it be the baby? The tail is moving, maybe someone is eating up there.

Bad storm here with high winds, some nervous ground moments here, :???:
Heard that several trees are down and blocking streets, and the winds were really quite fierce, so it's high time for a South Bend Cam Report. 10:18 p.m., I am pleased to report that the baby is fine, and asleep on the shelf of the nest box. I think there may be a parent perched on the railing, but it is hard to tell if it's a bird or just the trick of a wet cam lens. Definitely sure about the baby, though. So you can all calm down now and
get some rest, :offtobed: or go somewhere else and worry about another nest. :shock whatever suits your fancy.

Hi SBwatcher ! :hithere: Thanks for the report that the falcons have weathered the storm! I do appreciate your dedication... Actually, I hope some of that rain makes it to Ohio. My flowers are SAD!

wonderful coverage sbwatcher, thank you so much.
I am not able to watch cams to much anymore. My daughter is back to work so now I've got ALL the grandkids home and the newborn so it is like all HE** has broke loose here.

Looks like a rainy day in South Bend - I think you had some storms roll thru yesterday, didn't you? (I look on radar as to what weather is in Indiana to know what's coming to Ohio...) At first little girl was standing facing the corner - either she was bad, or she doesn't like rain... :teehee: She'd look over her shoulder and peep a little, then turn back. Now she's started preening, checking her wing, and her feet...

Thanks for the report Tsusan. :attention:

I will be extra busy for the next few days, so I will just post briefly that I saw both adults from the ground yesterday. All survived the storms, which probably means that our falcons have far greater hiding skills than the local trees. So many trees down that yesterday we still had 20,000 people without power.

Ground report: I got to see Clementine today ! I'm sure it was her because while I was watching, two other falcons wheeled around the Chase Building, getting in some last minute flying before the rain came in. About 7:45 p.m., I arrived to find Clementine perched on the nestbox perch toward the left side. She sat there for quite a while, occasionally turning her head, and preening just a little bit. Occasionally she would stretch her wings upward, not flapping at all, just a single stretch and then folding them in. I did not see any pre-flight behaviors, she seemed content just to sit. After about 15 minutes, she walked carefully to the middle of the perch and then back again. I have not seen her on-cam this evening and I am wondering if she is on the perch tonight. The weather is calm after our rainstorm earlier this evening, so maybe she is on the perch. If anyone sees her or her parents on cam, please post or let me know.

sbwatcher is heading for bed :offtobed:

I Finally caught Clementine on camera. She is getting so big and "grown up"looking, that at first I wasn't sure who I was seeing. :loveshow: Now she is sitting Very Pretty on the porch ledge... preening. Now Im beginning to wonder... Is this Clementine? Has she changed this much since the last time I saw her?

I have the cam up and no falcons. Will keep watching out for her.

They do change rapidly as they lose all that baby down and get their grown up feathers. A read of the bands would confirm who we see...

Sorry not to have posted, but I have barely been downtown and so I've not seen anyone. Also have not seen anyone on cam in the nest box, but of course I would expect a juvie to lose interest in the nest box at some point.

My neighbor tells me that the paper recently published a photo of our not so little anymore Clementine sitting on a church, so she is flying. I have not been able to find a link to the photo, and have not seen anything in the paper. Hopefully no news is good news. Enjoy your first summer flying, Clementine !
