Just checking cams and when I opened the South Bend site I was met with SNOW on the ledge. Checked the date and it was February something, 2015. Was just getting ready to take a screen shot and the cam switched to today, current time and no snow.
No falcons in view either in February or today! :teehee:

:eggroll: WOW, guys - sounds like you have your hands full! I guess we will have to keep a close eye on the cam if we are to see what the South Bend falcon family are up to... Sbwatcher, I hope this busy time slows down soon for you. And marineof2 - Good luck on moving to a new home- Congratulations! We appreciate both of you so much, and we will miss you while you are taking care of "business" !

thanks Tsusan but I am not totally gone. Very busy but I do look for the guys several times a week. As A matter of fact, I saw some of our guys last night around 9:15 p.m. Two juvies were sitting on the eat side of the County City Building, resting after a possible day in the countryside. As they perched, a third falcon flew by overhead and disappeared going north. Just a few minutes later, the two juvies took off, one right after the other and both also flew due north. I wonder where they stay at night, since there are no tall buildings or rock formations anywhere close. :?:
In prior years I noticed the same behavior, once they are flying well, they spend most days away from downtown, return to the County City Building before dark, rest there for a while and then fly north.

ours do the same sbwatcher. they learn to hunt away form area and come back to roost. they usually put on some flying displays for us.
I find early morning and after 4:30pm the best time to watch, but i am further north , where we have daylight till after 10pm at night.

that is why our watches are so long.

:loveshow: Hello, sbwatcher! Great to hear from you! It's so good to hear that the juvies are doing well, working on perfecting their "falcon" skills. I guess it's good they go into the country side to practice... No big buildings or windows to bump into. THANKYOU for your report, and thank you for your input, too, Bev...

:thumbup How neat, marineof2 - they have reached the point of wanting to explore on their own a bit. Thanks for keeping your eyes on the juvies for us- although it's pretty fun, anyway, isn't it?

South Bend Tribune Report

SOUTH BEND — South Bend's four young peregrine falcons are doing fine in their flying and likely will depart the city for life on their own by the end of this month.

That's the assessment of local raptor rehabilitator Carol Riewe, who has been monitoring the young birds as they've been learning to fly in recent weeks. The young birds were banded by experienced volunteers in early June, before they started flying.

Once the young falcons are confident in their flight skills, they'll go their separate ways.

Males usually settle about 100 miles from where they're raised, while females usually settle about 200 miles from where they're raised.

Because the birds are banded, where ever they settle, volunteers will be able to tell from the bands which birds hatched in South Bend.

The young falcons are the offspring of male falcon Zeus and female falcon Maltese. This is the first brood that the pair has produced.

:5val: Thanks Carolyn!!! I have been wondering if all 4 were okay! :flirty: :flirty: :flirty: :flirty: Hoping for Zeus and Maltese to stop by for a bonding session, but with 4 juvies to feed and teach, I guess there's not much time for that!!! :teehee:
