Here are some comparison pics of the juvies seen and photographed thus far.

Saturday sighting 6/10 - Juvie on Dispatch reporters car. A male??
Image

Sunday sighting 6/11 - Juvie on a car by the Riffe Tower. This juvie is a female and different than the one above. It still has fluff on the right side near the tail. I suspect these two pics are the 2 kids that fledged Saturday and both got low.
Image

Monday's sighting 6/12 - Juvie on a crane by the Riffe Tower. This image is not the best, but the white fluff on the right side of the body may be similar to that seen on the juvie above that was spotted Sunday. If so, it didn't get far, but managed to get a bit higher. Then again, it could be the fledge of Monday morning.

PS: Perk, I hope your home didn't suffer any damage from the fire next door. Hopefully, it was contained early. Honestly, why would anyone want to do such a thing?

The arsonist wasn't captured. Damage limited to the house on fire. According to the news there have been several arsons in my general vicinity.

So the location where I found the crane from the picture is a rather closed in area. Tall buildings on both sides of the street and at the end of the street. The fledgling could conceivably have trouble finding a clear path to a higher perch. I am going to spend extra time tomorrow in that area.

It is the stretch of West State St. between South High St. and Front St. For those unfamiliar with Columbus, State Street borders the south side of the statehouse lawn. Rhodes Tower is at the north side of the lawn. South High St makes the west border. So the fledgling was photographed on State St. in the middle of the block west of South High St. Kinda catty corner to nest ledge but not in view of ledge due to the Riffe Tower on the south west corner of State and High.

A picture would be easier but I don't have one

Thanks for the comparison pics, Nadia..

Perk..so glad your house wasn't damaged..but, so scary that there is an arsonist loose!!! geeeeeeeeeez..

I'm not sure if this map will help or confuse!! the big green space is the Capitol area. The Rhodes is north of that. I have boxed in the streets that perk mentioned. Also, the red blob, east of the Rhodes is Columbus Dispatch..actually, its a tad more east, but I ran out of map..

Also on this map, you'll see the LeVeque Tower, Huntington, and Riffe Center

What a great map! Thanks SGB! :egg19: Perk, I'm glad you had no damage to your home. That can really be scary. A house went up in flames on my block 3 yrs ago. Everyone got out OK, but it was a very scary sight to see a two story home at night totally engulfed.

That female that became low on Sunday may be doing well by now. At the time she fledged, the kids were only 39 days old and baby was 37. Today, they are 43 days old and baby is 41. Just those few extra days can make such a difference in flight ability for the females.

Happy hunting Perk!

Good morning everyone - I was downtown this morning on my way to work. I heard several screaming chicks, unfortunately, I could not find them. I was not sure if I was hearing 2 or 3 locations. They sounded quite high - towards the Huntington Bank building and the LeVeque. I hope to walk around tis evening - maybe if there is one tht is on the ground - which I understand may be a possibility - I hope it is safe until someone finds it. If anyone can walk around in the Huntington Bank underground parking garage - they have been known to hang out there - rofl

:teehee: Hiding from those screaming juvies? This is probably a good sign when parents are seeking a quiet place to hide and rest....the juvies may be chasing after them in the air whenever they see them. A few years back, I recall watching Durand slink her way down the length of the lower ledge into the far corner out of view as she nervously looked overhead. It was a few weeks after fledge and was apparent that she was trying to hide...lol. Oh...those rowdy teenagers! :tantrum2: :egg6:

Lol...Aries may be getting knocked off his perch a lot...by Durand to make him go hunt and by the kids for the fun of it. There's no rest for Dad.

I met Rose downtown around 6:15 this evening. Rose had to leave around 7. Rose got a pic of an adult on the Rhodes Tower ledge but nothing else happening.

I decided to stick around the statehouse lawn where I can see Rhodes, Riffe, Huntington, ans Leveque. Around 7:10 I noticed a little "bump" on the north east corner of the Huntington Tower. I grabbed my binoculars and was delighted to see not one but two fledglings! They were just hanging out watching the sky. It was kind of them to stay where I could observe them :loveshow: I watched them for about 15 minutes when all of the sudden they started squawking and flapping. An adult came in from the east and landed next to them. I believe it was a food drop. The adult quickly departed and the hysterics ended. :5val:

The adult did a lap over the Riffe, Huntington, & US Bank buildings and then landed on the Leveque antennae. After a few minutes the adult returned to the pair on the Huntington but again took off fairly quickly. No hysterics this time. The adult circled Leveque a few times before landing on a light fixture near the top. The pair on the Huntington were doing a little wing flapping and running along the edge of the north side of the roof. I believe they have decided to cool their heels and let Mom & Dad continue to care for them for the time being!

It was hard to tear myself away but I had to head home after about 15 minutes of everybody staying put. I didn't hear any calls aside from the Huntington pair so the location of the other two fledgings remains a mystery. I walked round the site of the crane & car photos but no luck. Tomorrow is another fledgling hunting day... :spring1:

(I obviously never made it back here last night to post rosekk's pics..will do that in a few)

WOW, perk...what an exciting day for you!! In all of those tall buildings, I cannot believe you actually found 2...and together as well...I would have had such a hard time leaving. Now if the other 2 would just cooperate with you and rosekk and show themselves..and cooperate with the rest of us and show back up on the ledge!!!

Thank you so much Perk - I knew the minute I got on the bus to leave that I should have stayed with you - thank you so much for the great report and I am so happy that you were able to watch the adults fly around downtown and then to even catch a food drop. WOW - amazing!!! :hapdance:
