I'm just thrilled she's back, shocked but thrilled!! I wonder if Eve has eggs at her other site? She usually lays first if memory serves me? Someone can confirm if I'm wrong. I'm just nervous she'll come back...

I can answer that: Eve was not yet nesting. I could see her a few days ago at the church where she passed the winter. Last year she started to nest in May after Eole left the university and joined her at the incinerator.

I also fear that it is not over.

Eve was seen in the nesting box after the battle so the 2 falcons are safe.

Thanks Matrix...I'll go back and take another look...

Trying to stay optimistic here..the point being that at one point, they BOTH flew...if you've every operated a PTZ cam, it is not easy to do, especially when trying to keep up with flying birds at a distance...by the time you get a cam panned or zoomed, often you've missed the pic...I know...I operated the Richmond BE cam for a season..

I watched that 3 times and the other did fly off to right but low in cam operators vidoe. they both did fly off, but last one a bit after one on left flew

The one on the right did not fly off. It flew up to the wall. As I said, bev, SGB's video cut off before the cam zoomed down to where the one on the right was sitting. One has to go to the complete video, and watch.
If you want to turn this into a "I'm right" moment, go for it. I was trying to get attention drawn to the peregrine's plight, now a I'm right, your wrong moment"...
Just had a message from Rick, and it appears some are upset, yet again, over my comments (this time on my personal page) Instead of concern for the peregrine!!
I can't help it if I can't post the video here. Third Party picture/video sources to post to the forum are a pain for my resources to accomplish.
As for operating a cam, it is obvious from watching when they operate it, it is difficult.
Now I know WHO operates it, so in the future, I can immediately message that person, instead of bickering here, about what I catch, that other's missed.
And.... Thankfully, Spirit is back now anyway, so all this is a mute point now.....

sorry MAtrix. I was not trying ot be right , you wrong.

I guess I did not understand what you were saying. I did not see beyond where I saw it go. I knew it flew low. like you , my immediate thought was they should go looking in that spot. But I did not know who to message.

and you are right. it should always be about the peregrine. I always will stand by that. I always appreciate comments from others at my sites, so I can follow up. ( i have even picked up pigeons and thanked people , as they thought it was a falcon I was grateful they were watching and called )

so do not quit posting your thoughts. You may save a falcon.
I do not know why some would be upset by your comments. You videoed it and I did not watch the video as I could not , I only watched when they fell.

so once again, truly sorry :15heartbeat:

I think it looks like swelling emanating from her jaw area. After looking at those pictures yesterday with the intruder clamped down on her lower beak, I'm not surprised she's got swelling.

Glad to see her.

5:22 - is that the male on eggs now?

If so, something just happened to the right - just out of cam. I heard 1 calling - either a mating attempt or attack.

Okay, then I saw a tail, heard one yelling, then saw 2nd come at the 1 yelling and go completely out of cam range. Then the male came in to eggs. Literally within a few seconds.

I'm going to back the Live cam up and watch again.

Definite attack. Within a minute or 2 of Spirit finishing her meal.

6:10ish - mating off cam, but heard

1 (I think probably Spirit) is sitting on top of cam arm - you can just see tail in archives of Cam 1

7:23 - Spirit is on perch. Poor girl, looks like she's got something between her cere and eye on left side and feathers seem out of place on right side.

Calling for her mate

Both did NOT fly off...at the end of your video, SGB watch the one to the right. It is still sitting there as the one to the left fly off.

Now the video doesn't go on to where the cam operator zoomed down towards the one on the right. (That is in my video)
The operator narrowly missed seeing the peregrine sitting there, and panned the zoomed cam to the right, instead of the left.
They focused on some pipes and such.
Then, when they zoomed back out from that point, I stopped the video because, again, the peregrine was still sitting there.
Anyone can go look at the video on theit FB page that this site posted, and watch this.
Don't focus on the one that flew to the left. Keep your eye on the one that flew to the wall, on the right.
Granted, the cam is blurred, but it is obvious when you see it full screen.
If they are truly concerned and looking for her, they might want to pan down to that area today, as the new female was looking down there yesterday, after she returned. In fact, when she took off, she headed down, but the cam operator panned out into the sky and ledges, instead of down there.
I posted the pics on their FB page, but it was ignored.Rick stated that both flew off, and never commented again on the pics I posted in the comments.
Oh Well...I tried.

I saw the point you are referring too..an easy miss by the cam operator and the viewer...but, its all a moot point now since both Spirit and "Eve" have been accounted for, and I think that is what is important!! FB is great some of the time, but comments/posts get lost in the shuffle, and I doubt Rick deliberately ignored you. Its time consuming (and frustrating for me) to go through 40/50 posts and try to follow the "conversation".

So happy that Hope remained at the nest today. Hopefully her eye and beak will be ok...I'm not surprised it looks bad after seeing the beak lock on Richard's video..I was afraid it would be much worse!!

I hope this is over, but I'll take today!!

4.57 pm Male on eggs, read online that the other female may be back...Spirit took off like a bandit awhile ago and yelling was heard. Nothing seen on cam other than him on eggs atm.

Nope I was wrong, that was just a still..grrr..

Carly, at 5.16 pm both Eole and Spirit were next to the box. Spirit was eating a prey.
I really don't understand why I can't copy the link from Photobucket to here anymore! :egg16:
I will try to download it to another site first, and then I will copy the link to here:

Bev, I'm less active on the peregrines. Many other people take pics and clips of De Mortel.
Here you can find a (dutch) link to De Mortel so as to many other peregrine cams in the Netherlands and all over the world.

Spirit spends the night in the nestbox, but didn't incubate.
According to the images, there has been no other fight between Spirit and Eve, except if they fought somewhere else of course. (Eole incubated quite well through the afternoon and before).

You can select Day, Time and Cam in the archives of the UdM falcons. Here:
