A second chick fledged today, leaving 3 in the nest box.

RRGC Kestrels

A third chick fledged today, leaving 2 in the nest box.

I have been gone for a week - look what I found at Nebraska site today :eggface:

Not sure when the eggs were laid...but looks like we have a 2nd clutch!!

Beth - Welcome back! And thanks for checking on the Nebraska kestrels . . . I'd stopped checking because all the chicks had fledged. It's really quite amazing to see a second clutch - with two eggs already - for the kestrel pair at Nebraska.

It's perfect timing because we had more fledges today: the last two RRGC kestrels fledged, and the third Boise kestrel fledged leaving only two chicks left in the nest.

And then there was only one. The 4th kestrel chick fledged this morning at the Boise nest.

Update: I just looked in on the Boise nest again, and the last chick - a female - looks ready to fledge at any moment. It definitely won't be long now before the nest is empty.

Third egg for Nebraska kestrels' second clutch!

The fifth (and last) kestrel chick at the Boise nest fledged yesterday. I'm happy that all went so well at this nest, but it's always sad to see the kids go.

At least we now have a 2nd clutch of eggs at Nebraska to check up on.

Wasn't it Neb that had the 2nd clutch a couple years ago?

I wonder if something is going on here....I've been watching for about 30 min as I've been doing other things...the eggs have mostly been uncovered...

parent pops in for about 30 seconds...then leaves..

eggs are currently alone..

Nice pictures, SGB. I checked in on the nest yesterday also and managed to catch pictures of mom getting ready to leave the nest and dad doing nest duty later on.

1st hatch for the Nebraska Kestrel's second clutch! Unfortunately, mom kept the new little chick pretty well covered up so these were the best pictures I could get.

Nebraska chick keeping the other eggs company. Perhaps there will be another hatch later today.
