Very nice success stories! Thanks KF. I have not seen this group's site before. They have very nice facilities. What's interesting is they "soft" release both their small birds and raptors on their property (70 acres). Soft release means they are giving them some food, but still, it seems like the predators might win.....

I really like this blog they try and keep you updated as much as they can
being as busy as they are and great photos

Hope it's the right thread to post this and hope someone is interested to help a PFs' nest box in danger, Brighton, Sussex, UK.
"This is an urgent request for as many signatures as possible to try to stop the peregrine falcon nest box being taken down from the top of the tallest building in Sussex - Sussex Heights."
You can sign the petition at
http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/PeregrineFalcons

A group is on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=308489243384

I generally don't post any petition on other message boards, but this is about PFs, anyway, if wrong, you'll delete my post.

Hi Kim. I know I've seen this petition link on our forum somewhere, maybe at the Breaking News thread. Many BCAW members have already signed, including me ;) and hopefully more will sign so the goal can be met. Thanks for the reminder!

I just signed the petition but would really like to know "why?" the nest box is being removed - so I clicked on a few of those discussion links & signed up for things that I have never seen before :? , i.e. tinychat, but I still couldn't find the answer - does anyone know "why?" ...

Pru, as I understand it, the "powers that be" want to take it down for 6-7 years to perform maintenance on the building. Like the cam viewers wouldn't notice its gone! As SusanE said, there is somewhere else on our forum that discusses this & many of us have signed the petition from there...

FUTURE BLEAK FOR LITTLE FAIRY PENGUINS ...

Image

Every year, hundreds of tourists visiting remote islands off the Tasmanian coast are
enchanted by the site of little penguins - also known as fairy penguins - making their way
across the sand dunes after dark towards their burrows.

Link...

We had talked about these little sweeties in the

Oh Beth - good thing you found that article - I haven't heard of that at all!

Of course they could build a "little" tunnel under the road - in northern states this has already been successfully put in place for allowing koalas & wombats to walk under freeways that run through state forests - so they must be aware of the practice - oh phooey! how frustrating to hear of such idiocy! And they even have existing Fairy Penguin twilight tours in the area

I'm gonna set up a Google news alert on this story to see what happens.

Gorgeous photos, SGB, and the story of the Ivory Gull was very touching.

When I read the story SGB I cried.
I guess becasue I would have intervened. I always carry my box with me now and I would risk a fine if I saw a bird in obvious distress. I guess I have learned that if you wait becasue you think others have done it , you wait in vain.

I am not being harsh here, and I realize they did not intentionally let it die but ....the signs were all there.

Great story Patti! Harley is lucky to have been close to the finest raptor center in the country, and perhaps the world. Beware of those talons!

I'm not sure this is the right place for this post. This is on the DPOF message board.
