They've done that successfully in other countries. In Sweden, the male & female at a nest were brother & sister, so they went thru several years of no chicks, then they started taking their eggs and exchanging them for some fertilized eggs, & they got babies! In Canada they have fostered chicks out when the natural parents were killed or seriously injured & had great success with that! Falcons make wonderful foster parents! :flirty: This has been coming up every year when other nests have eggs & Freedom & Roosevelt don't.

But you probably knew all this, Mick, & were just laughing at the terminology!

That's right, I remember that! I think that was last year. It would be great if there were some kind of program to take chicks from nests where there obviously isn't enough food (like San Jose last year), & foster them out to nests that don't have chicks or maybe only have one.

Roosevelt in the box today:

Freedom and Roosevelt have not had eggs for three years now, but they had already made a huge contribution to the recovery of the peregrine population. They have such a strong, complex bond; it goes far beyond raising chicks together.

Thanks for the nice pictures. I checked in a couple of times today and saw somebody (Roosevelt, I think) standing right in the middle of the little bowl. :loveheart2:

I guess nature has it's way and they are too old to raise young, but they sure look as though they prepare all the same each year. They are truly special.

Pess, Freedom is 17 this year, & Roosevelt is 16. Roosevelt is younger than Kinney at Indy, who is 17, & certainly younger than Sir James at James River Bridge who was 20 last year & still fathered chicks, but not many females in the wild live as long as Freedom!

Love seeing them together, Mick! I was just about to post the same pic, so I'll post the pics before and after yours.
