Aug 13, 2009 - At least one juvie

Yesterday Fred reporting seeing both the adult female and at least one juvenile. Today a juvenile was again spotted in the morning near the nest ledge.

Aug 11, 2009 - Not much to report on lately

The past while, falcon spottings around the buildings have been minimal. Yesterday a report was received from Ann who spotted a falcon on the peak south of the nest ledge.

No information has been received about our male adult despite multiple requests for a status update.

Hi gang, long time no speak. It's been boooorrrring over here as far as falcons are concerned. I get reports from residents but I can't really confirm half of them so I don't post much. All I know is one juvie is still around, and as far as I can tell, Mom is, but only sometimes. Jack was spotted here but that was a few weeks ago at this point.

Updates on my site are infrequent now mostly because there's nothing to update on, but also because I've had to shift my priorities and pay attention to that all important pastime, life.

Not sure what to make as far as next year goes, for one thing we don't know if Mom will nest here and/or find a suitor, and at the same time, I'm not sure if I'll be able/willing to devote so much time to the project as I have the past 2 years. Still undecided and willing to think it through in the spring, but politically and financially, it's all takes a bit of a hit on me to do this where I live, where I'd frankly like a more relaxing lifestyle and not to be the "go-to" guy on all things falcons. Don't get me wrong, I like the birds and the activity from interest's point of view, but wrestling with different entities, coordinating necessary steps, and then not getting appropriate support or feedback from related parties gets on my nerves.

We'll see what happens next year, but considering I still can't find out what happened to our male, and for that matter haven't received any response from our local officials for months, it kind of negates the whole stewardship effort not knowing what's become of any of the birds, and if one of our juvies were to miraculously show up somewhere nesting in a few years, I doubt I'd ever find out about it.

Anyways, will report anything interesting but I'm doubtful there'll be much of that any time soon.

It's great to see you here, Mathew! I do feel your frustration with how this last season went. You really put your heart and soul into it, and so many people all over the world reaped the benefits by watching live and receiving your daily on-site reports. It confuses me, too, that the local authorities are not communicating with you. Weird. It is one thing for some of the building residents to be complacent, but quite another for the authorities to be so. :(

Gosh, Matthew, it sounds as though it would be nice to hand over the "co-ordinator baton" to someone else & become just a simple "nest watcher" again yourself - hope someone puts their hand up for the task. ;)

Matthew....so good to see you...I really feel your frustration as well!!! such a shame that the "powers that be" could not/would not keep you in the loop regarding the status of the male. I'm sure being the lone "keeper of the cam" is extremely time consuming...just being a "watcher of the cams" is "life altering" in itself.. I can't imagine being in charge of one...well, we certainly have enjoyed your cam this past season and you joining us here has been the iciing on the cake...its so much fun having the inside info...so get some much needed rest..

Carly....jack is MIA?! Gosh, that's not good...unless he's gone on a vacation with Matthew's female...do keep us posted..

I was reading about that with Quest, that was the first thing I thought of is I sure hope she stays at the cape so as to not rock the boat at any of your nests it sounds like Jack is doing enough of that for all

Sep 30, 2009 - Mom & Jack

Today Fred caught Mom & Jack near the nest ledge. They've also been seen frequently at the south end of the complex.

Check out yesterday's update from Mathew Rossi. Woohoo!

Yesterday I was glad to receive an email from a friend Lee in St. Catherines. Lee apparently made a visit to the facility where our resident male is being kept and passed a brief status update my way.

Our male is said to be healing well and if all goes as expected will be released in the spring! Not sure how a release like this works or if he will find his way back to the nest location, but it's safe to say Mom would appreciate seeing him again.

The included image is our male, taken May 23rd, and was the last shot I took of him this year.

Thanks for the info Lee, maybe in the months to come I'll get more info from the MNR or rehab facility... stay tuned.

As for the nest location in general, Mom is being seen regularly at the south end of the property, and occasionally gets a visit from another falcon I'll assume is Jack. Mom may have been displaced from the normal nest ledge due to some recent repairs being made in that area, hopefully she makes her way back there sometime soon now that the work is done.

Oct 12, 2009 - Thanks to my mistress?

This Thanksgiving weekend Fred spotted Jack bringing a feast to Mom.

While Mom was enjoying her meal, a flock of Turkey Vultures flew by. Mom kept eating, Jack went out to defend the territory...

Oct 20, 2009 - Saw a Juvie today!

The past few days I was pretty sure I'd seen a juvenile near the nest ledge, but was unable to be sure given the distance it was being seen from.

This morning at the south end of the property a juvenile was definitely seen, on the same ledge as Mom. From the squawking it may have been asking for food, not really sure.

Interesting... Will try to get an ID in the near future but that will likely prove easier said than done.
