You would think they'd be exhausted, what with the high heat and humidity and all their running around in the nest box today. I'd expect them to be sleeping in the box with their wings outstretched to cool off but no, they keep moving into and out of the box. And when they're in the box, they're still doing some flapping and moving around. Go figure!

BTW - I think little Red Band takes after his mom. As far as I can tell, he spends more time in the box than the rest of his siblings, just like Red Girl stayed at home on the ledge in Harrisburg long after her siblings did.

I guess kids will be kids! :)

And you're right, Red band does seem to be in the box a lot!

I figured she went out to get more food, but she didn't huh? Well, there's been one who always waited til the others were all lined up for food, & then he/she would go around to the side & plant herself/himself under RG's beak. Guess things haven't changed much, except that now that the chick is bigger, it can steal the whole thing!

Thanks for the great video, Kim!

Gee, what great pictures and videos from today. Thanks to all! I can't remember if this nest location has a northern exposure or not. Maybe somebody can refresh my memory on that.

Is this becoming a habit? The kids were hopping in and about the box this morning, creating quite the storm of white fluff and feathers. Then things settled down until one chick found some leftovers and proceeded to eat . . . then another chick stole the food and dragged it off to a corner, where a third chick ended up stealing it from him. So far, there hasn't been a dull moment in the box!

Here are two pictures, the first showing 4 chicks in the box and the second showing Red Girl feeding one of her brood.

Great pictures Ethel! That little scene Is exactly what I watched yesterday. They are so cute with their interactions. That fluff is something else. Looks like it would make them sneeze. LOL Bad enough with one or two, but with FIVE it gets pretty heavy.

Jane , I believe it is a northern exposure. Maybe North East?

Northeast is right. The box may get direct sun early in the morning, but it's shaded most of the day.

Thanks for the info on the box exposure, Greg. Tuned in to find one chick sacked out, and another looks like it may be self feeding in the upper part of the picture. Loved the pictures, Ethel.
