Does anyone know of a link to documentation about GHO predation on falcon fledges at hacking sites? (A hard question to say fast)!!

Thanks!

I know the Documentaries we watched from the Nature Program on PBS, they mentioned Predators of the young Falcon's on the ledges & cliffs in the wild. One reason they are not over run with them. I can't get the remark about the ROOf TOP out of My head. Good Golly, that is where the Falcon's chose to make their nest, and were helped with a nice nest box from Human Hands. They weren't forced there like they are NOW! That's been their Home for Years.

O.K. I'm done!

A WHOLE bunch of years ago they released some young Peregrines on the rocky face of a mountain north of Harrisburg. It is suspected that they fell to Great-horned Owls, but not absolutely sure about that. Also not sure if there was some sort of protective box for them to be safely inside. Wonder if there's any web site about this reintroduction program in WV? Several years ago biologists took ALL the young ones from the James River Bridge when they were banded. There was some web cam where you could see them, too.

I haven't found much information so far on survival rates of hacked falcon chicks, but I have found information about their success at fledging and dispersal. This site is from New River Gorge's park service and has some information from the program for 4 years starting in 2006 that you can read through and see pictures. Check through all the links in the articles to see more. They also have a link to a webcam, but all I got when I tried it out was a white, empty box. Maybe it isn't turned on just yet, so we may be able to see something later on. Look in the section for photos and multimedia for the link to the webcam.

Thanks for the report from Kim, Reenie. Loved the part about the sychronized screaming. Wonder if the storm that rolled through Harrisburg at 4:30 AM will hit Wilmington? Don't know which way it way going.

Thanks for the info on the hacking box, Carol. I remember when the cam out there was working, but with budget cuts everywhere, I doubt it will be used this year. I agree that there are certain situations where hacking increases the young birds' chance of survival, but the Wilmington situation isn't one of those situations. The birds usually end up in cities anyway because they have a better source of food in cities.

Thanks to Kim and Reenie for the report on the boys this morning (and prior mornings)!

thanks Kim for your report , through Reenie.

Love watching the young ones play.

I just want to say here, that I wish they would contact Kim when they want to do something. she is the one that is monitoring , along with many others(GReg one of them). Adn most people that watch the cams on this forum are very knowledgeable. We learn from each other.

Just will never sit right with me.

But the boys are doing good :girlluv: :girlluv:

These are really crappy (hmmmmm...will it change that to darny?) pictures but here are the kids playing early this morning. Unfortunately there was no light. I can't really figure out the first picture but there are two birds here!

Kim, your shots are spectacular! The boys looked like they were having a ball playing in the sky together.

I laughed out loud at your testing of the naughty word. :laugh2
