Thanks for your interesting report Mike. And thanks to Kim for checking on the boys this morning and to Reenie for posting the information on here for us all to read.

Not to reopen hard feelings about your girls, but we are so happy that 'Legs' our third chick in Jersey City actually survived to be hacked was a thrill. When the bird is hacked they don't have to worry about food deliveries or a food source. We are thrilled Legs will be with other eyases close to his age. Yes, your birds are older, but the others are close to his age. He would never have been able to compete with the two other eyases for food, even now. Lady Liberty, aka Libby, stole food from her brother, Hudson AND her mom and dad, Athena and Six. We think she fledged first yesterday or today. Quite unusual for a female.

AND, as we were told by our wonderful biologist, it is much easier for the adults to only have two to look after, protect and feed. Just a thought and I don't want to cause further agita. Just know that your birds will have a much better chance of survival and in two years or so, they might be back in Wilmington or nesting where people will know who they are. They are really not very far away.

The adult falcons here in Wilmington were able to feed all five nestlings so that even the one that hatched two days behind kept up and caught up (until they all started leaving the nest, a day or two too early). Sometimes the male showed up with new prey, all five kids were stuffed and stupefied, and the female took the prey and stashed it somewhere.

Hacking to the WVA site may be a good chance for a chick hopelessly behind the rest of his siblings, but that was not the case here in Wilmington. These parents were and are better able to take care of their kids and launch them into the world than any human, regardless of credentials.

Some pictures of "the boys" from this morning! :)

Here's when WB flew off with the prey...

And here are "the boys" playing chase! It's too bad "the girls" aren't around to show them how it's really done!

And this is RG with RB. I missed the good shots of them flying together.

Kim, I just never cease to be amazed at the beautiful shots you get of this family! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

Greg, good to see you back--we've missed you! Hope your trip was good. Very well stated opinion, and I am glad that the chicks whose chances of survival were improved did get hacked, but I also believe the girls' chances of long-term survival were better with their parents.

Bonnie, I am so glad that Tri-State was able to help the little Jersey City chick & that he was given the best chance of survival (for him) with other chicks.

First and Foremost, Greg, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN. Thanks for expressing what is in MY heart.

Kim, Your pictures are MOST beautiful and put Me to tears once again. My, oh my ,they are spectacular Birds. Thanks So much for your gift of Photography.

Bonnie, thanks for your post about your little one. Two sides of a coin. But for OUR Girls, it was wrong!!! Sorry, but NO ONE can change MY mind.

I saved a Chickadee the other day,(see past post), and to see it fly off with the parent was the greatest gift i could have been given in that situation.

Kim, your aerial pics are just gorgeous!!! Seeing their antics against that beautiful blue sky are amazing. Such a joy to see them having so much fun and honing their skills....I loved your comment: "And here are "the boys" playing chase! It's too bad "the girls" aren't around to show them how it's really done!" It still is so sad that the girls are not a part of this experience..

Thanks for you comments Mike and Bonnie and for explaining the logic behind sending Legs to W. VA. In that situation it seemed appropriate, since the alternatives were few...but it also emphasized just how inane the decision was to send the girls...

Anyway, it looks like the boys are doing great and I pray they continue to do so. Kim, I do hope you will have camera in hand when they "fix" their own lunch!!!

OMG, Kim. Those pictures are fabulous. White flying with the prey is too much! Welcome back, Greg. I agree completely with your thoughts about the Wilmington girls. I will never understand the reason for taking them from two great adults that are wonderful parents. And Bonnie, your input is appreciated as well. I pray that little "Legs", the Wilmington girls, and all the other juvies to be released in WV will be safe.

KIM'S MORNING REPORT STARTING AT 6AM.

3 FALCONS WERE JUST FLYING AND 1 WAS PERCHED.

ALL 4 WERE FLYING AND SOMEHOW SHE MISSED A FOOD DROP.

ONE OF THE BOYS WAS SCREAMING, I GUESS THE ONE THAT DIDN'T GET FOOD.

BOTH ADULTS WENT AFTER SOMETHING AT 6:18

CJ MUST HAVE BROUGHT RG A PRESENT BECAUSE SHE WAS DOING THAT THING WHERE SHE SITS WITH IT UNDER HER TALONS AND KEEPS CALLING. UNTIL ONE OF THE BOYS COMES AND CHASES HER AWAY THAT IS.

SORRY IT'S LATE, JUST SAW THE MESSAGES.

Thanks, Kim, for those gorgeous pictures you posted last night. It was an absolute joy to see the boys chasing and playing with each other against that beautiful blue sky.

I only wish the girls were here in Wilmington to enjoy the thrill of the chase with their brothers and to learn the ways of becoming proficient fliers and self-sufficient falcons from their parents. CJ and Red Girl have done a remarkable job in raising, feeding, and nurturing their brood of five . . . no small task for first-time mom Red Girl (and perhaps CJ was a first time dad as well).

I'm thrilled that "Legs" from the Jersey City nest was able to recover under the care of Tri-State and that he could join the other falcon chicks at New River Gorge . . . I believe that move gave him the best chance of survival. But I'm still disappointed and sad that the two Wilmington girls, who we'd come to know and who already had several flights under their wings, were separated from their family and shipped off to New River Gorge too. I still believe that their best chance for survival would have been to return them to their Wilmington family.

My wish is that someday we'll be fortunate to see or hear of Legs and the Wilmington girls - Green Girl and No Band - finding mates and starting their own families.

Yup, and you never know....perhaps a romance blossoms this summer between Legs and one of the Wilmington gals and someday they have their own site (with a cam too!)!

I sure do wish they had a cam at the hack site like they did several years ago...

This may have already been posted...but some beautiful pictures here...

I've been off the forum for a few days, so glad to hear through Kim and Reenie how well the boys are doing. Kim all your photos are just absolutely beautiful!!! I especially love the one where WB is looking over his shoulder at RB teasing him to chase. When Jane and I were down there last week, we thought RB was a tad bigger than WB, but in you pics, it seems to be the other way around.

Greg - welcome home! I hope you had a good trip - we missed you. And I totally agree with what you said about the girls.

Mike and Bonnie - thanks for joining the conversation. I am so happy that little Legs was able to get the treatment he needed, and now gets a chance to return to the wild even though it wasn't safe or practical to return him to his own parents. I hope that he will thrive from the hacking site, and live many years.

Faith, I love your story about the chickadees! I know what you mean about the thrill of holding them in your hand. Hold a bird in your hands just once and you're hooked for life.

It sounds like the boys are progressing really well. It won't be long before they start trying to catch their own lunch. That will be quite a sight to see!

Awesome pictures, Kim! Sue, I also liked the one you mentioned for exactly the same reason. Growing up with brothers, it's the first thing that popped into my mind just based on how they always teased each other.

Greg, it's good to see you back, and I hope you had a good vacation.
