Okay, here are the technically crappy pictures from this morning. The content is good though! :)

Here is RG with food.

The handoff...

One of the kids has the food here.

Looks like a tug of war with the food which I'm guessing is how it got dropped!

Image

This is the last shot that I got before they went behind a building. Why can't they do all of this when there's more light?!
Image

This picture is actually kind of funny. This is when they went behind the building. Check out all the feathers in the air!

Here are the two kids and the Chimney Swift.

Here is one of the kids who was going after a swallow I believe.

If that's a baby duck, then I guess it isn't true that they only go after birds in flight. Although I guess we already knew that we true since I saw one go after a fish once!

Kim, off the top of my head I'm stumped on this one. I'm going to look at a book that has pictures of young birds.

The bill doesn't look right to me to be a baby mallard or any kind of duck for that matter. Odd.

It has to be a duck. What else could it be?

My daughter Louisa says Belted Kingfisher. She's right; beak is right, back is right, you can see the crest behind the big forehead, and even see the bit of blue gray sticking into the white throat below the eye (see Peterson, Kaufman or National Geographic guides). I don't know what is sticking to the kingfisher's left cheek behind the beak. Someone's out of place feather, I guess.

Another first, Kim. Nice catch, Red Girl.

Kim, you can keep all those "technically crappy" pictures coming! As for the prey Red Boy has, a Rhino Auklet would probably be on the Delaware RBA. I am standing almost upside down and all angles trying to figure it out. Can't get a Belted K-fisher out of it, for to me it looks too brown. How about a young Modo?

Juvie Modos do have funny looking bills, but I give up for now. I'll let you and Greg hash it out. I'm going for my falcon fix in Harrisburg right now. :-)

I think maybe the light was playing tricks on us. I think it was blending the bill with the falcon's tail feather.

The feathers really look like a MODO but they don't ever have light colored legs/feet and bill do they?

The new pictures look more like a mourning dove than a kingfisher. A kingfisher, at least an adult, would show white near the ends of the wings. But I don't get what the first picture Kim sent is showing. It seems to show a bird with a big head and a big beak pointed down to the left, and a back with a lot more contrast than a dove.

It could be a fledgling of some sort, with browner plumage than an adult. it's not a duckling; it's got developed flight and contour feathers.
