I only saw one of the adults when I stopped by before work this morning and was not able to see any of them when I checked a couple times from the office. I didn't get there until 5:30 this morning so it's possible I missed all the action. I guess it's possible the kids have moved on but I sure hope they haven't done that yet...

Thanks for the report, Kim. I'm hoping that you just happened to miss the action and that the kids are still around.

At last, the New River gorge site has some updated photos from 2011. Unfortunately, I didn't see Green Girl or No Band. Plus there was one troubling statement: "A 21st Peregrine originally slated for release appears to be suffering from developmental problems and returns to Tri-State Bird Rescue on 7/7/2011 to become an educational bird." I'm hoping this isn't one of the girls!

I have a feeling they're talking about Legs from JC. He was supposed to be released on June 29th with 3 other falcons (I think all from NJ bridges), but was held back for continued evaluation.

KIM, THE BOYS ARE PROBABLY AT THAT STAGE LIKE OUR LIL ONE HAS BEEN FOR A WHILE. HE LEAVES VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING TO LEARN FROM ONE OF THE ADULTS AND THEN DON'T SHOW BACK UP UNTIL EVENING ABOUT 2-3 HOURS BEFORE DARK AGAIN. SO YOU MIGHT HAVE A BETTER CHANCE IN THE EVENING THAN THE MORNING UNLESS YOU GET THERE BEFORE IT'S DAYLIGHT.

It wouldn't open for me either, although I could read the info. I couldn't see any pictures.

Thanks for posting the link, Catbird.

I'm also hoping that the boys are just out getting their education & not gone, Kim.

The link is back online. Thanks for posting that CB!

I saw at least 3 of the falcons this morning but probably 4 and I'm 99% certain that two of them were kids! Who else would sit a foot away from each other? :)

Glad you got to see them today Kim. Love Reenie's comment and agree that they should fly by at least. It is really "soupy" today. Love your comment Kim about sitting close to each other. So cute how the young act like all young species do. Then they have to GROW UP! I watch this with our "back Yard" birdies.
Off to work!

Just read the report from the New River Gorge and looked at the pictures. Noticed that on one photo of two juvies on a rock that one had green tape on the right leg. However, since there may be others from other locations also wearing green tape, there's no way to tell if it's our Green Girl. It does appear that those involved are keeping close tabs on the juvies. My guess too is that it's "Legs" that may have the developmental problems.

(OK...I just can't get over that everybody is on Facebook)....I posted a comment/question on Three River's Facebook page...I had asked about "legs" and the girls...here was their response (which I'll also post on New Jersey) I'm not quite sure what the Head comment meant... :suncon: but, anyway...

As for "Legs" he is progressing, but his tail is ruined due to the habit of sitting on his butt and his head is starting to look a little more normal. Details for placement with a falconer are being worked out. More on the released birds very soon.. promise!

So, if you use FB, go on over and post away...

Thanks for the new info, MA. Checked that Facebook link and photos. Found one new photo of seven beautiful juvies chowing down on a rock. I'm sure those folks are quite busy down there. Part of me wants to know about the girls, and the other part doesn't. ALL parts of me are still upset with them being sent down there.

Some news about GG and NB which totally sucks...

Kim,

The two DE sisters were released as scheduled on June 23 & 26. Food is put
out each morning for the released birds; we observe from a blind to record
which falcons we see feeding at the site. To date we have not had a
resight of the DE sisters or several of the other released falcons. You can
get more information about the falcon hacking at Three Rivers Avian
Center's website (http://www.tracwv.org/restoration.html).

That does really suck that they haven't seen the girls. I would like to hope that it means that they're on their way home, but I guess it wouldn't take them this long, & they would need to eat by now, too. What's done is done, but I hope that the people who make these decisions are paying attention to this & won't be tempted to do it in the future! :sunmad:

Great catches inside the box today. :clapegg: That Red Boy is a handsome devil!

There's no way those birds could have learned how to hunt while they were closed up inside a hack box so I seriously doubt they're still alive. :(
