TOTALLY AGREE the girls should have been returned to their nest/family. Again, CJ & RG have proven to be strong providers. Really, how many first time parents can successfully lay, hatch & raise 5? They (CJ & RG) had great parents, and these two have proven themselves.

Truly sorry that they took the girls from a successful location, with a proven track record of successful fledges. It's not like they were on a bridge with no chance of survival upon fledging.

And quite frankly, if peregrines are not nesting in W. VA, maybe there is a reason for that... maybe they realize the location is not suitable or sustainable for raising young.

So sorry... hope I didn't come off as not caring that they took these girls, or that no sighting of them is not disappointing. Can completely understand everyone's concern about these girls.

MWPLAY, THANKS FOR THE WORDS OF HOPE. THEY DO HAVE GOOD GENES :-) I'M SURE MOM IS OUT THERE WATCHING OVER HER GRANDKIDS TOO :-) NO BIRDS SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE SHOT AT FOR HUNTING OR ANY OTHER REASON! THEY ARE ALL SPECIAL!

Yes, thanks mwplay for providing the information that Glenn knew of. I would feel better if CJ and RG were watching over them, but it does provide some hope that they can make it.

My thanks too, mwplay for that information. I had heard about the shootings in California, and am 100% disgusted with that. I think there have been cases of fledged juvies who have been missing for a few days and then turning up. For me, not knowing anything may be worse than knowing. I'd rather see paying people to sit on boats under bridges during fledge time than sending all those beautiful juvies away.

Thanks nwplay for your encouraging words. We are heavily invested in these Birds with our Hearts and Minds. I do hope we have a "Surprise" someday like Red Girl and CJ were, here in Wilm. Thank goodness they are banded.

SGB, sorry if I came off strong this morning about the Band colors. And your idea about them re-banding might be a possibility. I want to know they are talking about the RIGHT Falcon's.

Today, I was talking to a customer, who is very interested in Birds of all kinds. She told Me," not long ago She was coming up Walnut St. in Wilm. in Her car, and right in front of Her, a large bird flew, dipped down and grabbed a much smaller bird, and took off with it." And she said to Me, she couldn't get over that THAT would happen in the City. Of course I told Her about the Falcon's and She said She never knew they were there. She knows now and is very interested in their being here.

mwplay - Thanks so much for your earlier post. It does give me reason to hope for a good outcome for the Wilmington girls!

I'd also like to express my sorrow about those awful events with the mother and daughter falcons in Oakland. Thankfully they survived and are being cared for . . . but I hadn't realized there was another daughter, Fern. I hope she'll be all right now that she's on her own while her dad is occupied with courting a new female.

I have not had time to post but I have been reading

I will stay positive that these 2 girls are strong fliers and are returning to the area they know. but will they know where to go?? they are strong and older and just may be able to pick off smaller birds to eat.

that this was a big mistake is an understatement. I am gong to ask our biologist next week about the girls not returning and see what he says. I think I posted here, that he said these 2 should have never been taken for hacking. You always try to put a bird that has fledged back at its site if possible or at another nest site. He said their best chance of survival is always with an adult at a nest site.. That is why he does so much fostering.

The birds that he is hacking along our wonderful Pembina river have been captive raised chicks that do not know a nest site. they will not be expecting to be fed by their parents.

AS far as Falconers go, our falconers here, do not want to see relaxed laws regarding falconers. They say you have to have strict guidelines in place. Our falocners here, used their falcons , to help with the recovery of peregrines.

God speed girls and we will all be looking for you. :loveshow: :loveshow:

Thanks for today's prey report, Greg. I just wish that the Wilmington falcon menu wasn't so eclectic! I love the Tufted Titmice that come to my birdfeeders.

KIM MADE HER TRIP DOWNTOWN. I FORGOT TO POST YESTERDAY'S, BUT HERE IS WHAT SHE SAW TODAY :-)

5:04 2 BIRDS PERCHED ON LEDGES OF GARAGE SIDE OF BW BLDG.

5:14 3 BIRDS FLYING, CJ LANDED ON HIS USUAL LEDGE, KIDS ON ROOF ABOVE HIM SCREAMING.

5:23 CJ TOOK OFF WITH KID HOT ON HIS TAIL! THEY DID A COUPLE OF TURNOVERS OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THEM AND THEN KEPT ON FLYING. SHE WATCHED UNTIL THEY WERE OUT OF SITE. THEY WERE OVER BRANDWINE RIVER AREA.

MORE FROM KIM :-)

7:10 1 KID AND 1 ADULT SITTING A FOOT APART ON THE ROOF OF THE BW BLDG. KID IS EATING.

7:23 1 KID ON ROOF, NO OTHER FALCONS IN SIGHT. WONDERING IF THE OTHER KID LEFT TOWN OR HE'S JUST LAYING LOW THIS MORNING.

7:31 SHE THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS IN THE NESTBOX. SHE ALSO JUST WATCHED AN ADULT GO AFTER SOMETHING. THEN SOMEONE FLEW TO THE NESTBOX.

I JUST CHECKED NESTBOX, NOBODY THERE, BUT IT IS 7 MINS LATER :-(

A big thanks Reenie from Kim and You. I didn't see anyone when I looked at the Cam. Also Greg with his food report. Titmouse? just a morsel! LOL Love them at our feeders.

I hope maybe that can shed some hope for these girls. So sorry to hear this news, especially after how good CJ & RG took care of them. If anything these girls have "survivor genes".

Hmm is that the Santa Cruz island off ventura ca? If it is, i have been following the BAEA nests there and the research biologists in their repors to the forum i am part of often see peregrines there. IF i were a peregrine its a lovely locale to raise a family with lots of rocky cliffs and such to set up scrapekeeping. Very little to fly into such as the bad windows that urban falcons have problems with. Also a good supply of yummy scrub jays, flickers and other poultry in what appears to be ample amounts (fwiw)

From 12:50 this afternoon:

She stayed in the nestbox for around 30 minutes I'd say. She mostly just sat in the same spot but she worked on the scrape a couple times too:

From about 10 minutes ago!

p.s. Thanks for posting my sightings Reenie! I never confirmed seeing both of the kids today so I'll probably stop by tomorrow morning. I know one of these days they'll be heading out of town but I sure hope it won't be for a while yet.
