Thinking about that video. Wasn't that 2010 when that happened? When Red Girl was left alone with the eggs? Then CJ showed up later on towards the end of 2010. I just checked my book and I have Caesar disappearing on April 26th 2010.

But now I'm thinking the eggs aren't in the nest when that fight took place. ?????

Faith, the fight was in the beginning of March last year and there weren't any eggs yet.

Also thanks for the answer Kim on the date. I did read that, but somehow My tired brain was confused and I thought you meant this March just past. I shouldn't post after a certain hour!!! LOL It's all very clear to me now, but still don't know about if it was CJ or not. Did notice the white band also.

I agree that we didn't identify the intruder at the time of the fight. After the fight in the box the two males sailed around in the air for a long time with Red Girl. When she finally joined the smaller male on a ledge, the larger male drifted off.

CJ is a big tiercel, bigger than at least one of his boys and, judging by tail feather length, bigger than Caesar was too. Looking at the faces of the fighters in the box, one could be CJ, but I get confused as to which is which because the camera doesn't always show who is larger.

I saw CJ chase off a smaller male intruder earlier in the year, just before eggs if I remember correctly. Red Girl was watching from the box ledge but had to get up and follow CJ chasing the intruder toward New Jersey. Too exciting to miss.

Is it possible the bird on the right is CJ? He has a black over green band on the left leg and he looks pretty big.

He does look big. Both tiercels, like CJ now, look like they have less white on the cheek (behind the malar bar) than Red Girl does.

Kim looking at that picture of the fight and the one you captured today, both have the same Green over black on that left leg. With that said that could have been CJ in the fight. I know that Green over Black is the Federal Band, but it sure looks like him. The time line would be right too, as I said before, that Caesar disappeared April 26th.

You can't really go by that band though because any birds banded in this area have the same black over green band on their left leg. Even RG! Here's some banding information I posted on my blog: http://wilmfalcons.com/blog/?p=792

Thanks Kim, I read your blog. I did know that , but was hopeful for a solution to the mystery. We may never know for sure. Darn.

Pardon my ignorance, but have I missed something here? I knew about that battle in the nestbox from last March, and remember watching it before. Although I knew falcons had territorial battles, I'd never seen such a thing before. Am wondering why this topic has come up for discussion?? Not sure how long it takes juvies to become independent from their parents. Our little guy in Harrisburg is still hanging around, but not sure if he's able to hunt yet or not. From my observations the last several times I was downtown, the adults don't seem to be overly concerned with his whereabouts, giving me the impression he may be hunting on his own. I've been observing this for well over a week. I would assume that the juvies in Wilmington may be independent, too. There's about a week in age difference if I am correct. Perhaps WB is out on his own. Hope that's the case.

Jane, no particular reason that I brought it up other than I was curious as to whether it might have been CJ in the fight!

I slept in this morning so I didn't get into town before the birds left their night time "roost". I saw one bird on the roof of the Brandywine Building who turned out to be RG who went after a Great Blue Heron!!!

Well Kim, I think you need to sleep in once in a while with the hours you've been keeping. At least you saw RG and a Great Blue Heron. So beautiful too, but not in Her space!
A Hot couple of days here. Maybe they will lay low, on some of those sheltered ledges.
