He got our grizzly on the protected list, last year. If we ever lose him, it might be a different story.
They have been fostering since ever I can remember. The only time it did not work ,was last year at Genesse, and that was because they missed the window of their hormonal interest. And they did not know that because they did not know they had abandoned their eggs because they did not know where they were till too late.

There was at least one other occasion when fostering did not work. Back in 2008, after the tragic loss of all three chicks in Winnipeg, an attempt was made to provide Princess and Trey with two foster chicks. The parents showed no interest in the chicks, who were returned to Alberta from whence they came. Perhaps too much time had passed since the loss of the chicks (about a month) for the chicks to be accepted.

:clapegg: OK bev or carly or anyone else that might know. Where is the Lehigh Inland Cement facility?
Nice little article here about the falcons there.

Peregrine falcon population recovering

Great pictures
The Alberta peregrine falcon population is recovering, with at least 70 pairs here.
One pair is doing well at the Lehigh Inland Cement facility in Edmonton.

This is nest is about 9 minutes from my house. This is the site that had 2 falcons hop a train while fledging (train track was close to nest box.) to central Alberta. When they got them at Sundry , they put them at the Edmonotn clinical nest (the year before Radisson) . 2 years ago 2 hopped train to Jasper but that did not end so well. , so last year Gord moved the nest box to a different area there,. We try to drive by thee and check , on Sundays after church. We also check on another nest site at same time. this lets Gord know when they are back and approx. when they have chicks. I do not have the time to monitor them very clsoely. But the plant has a cam and they watch and are pretty good.

Oh that is great that they watch them so good, I did see a camera in one of the pictures I was wondering if I had missed a nest with a camera  oh and how nice that it is that close to you. The 2 that hopped the train should have been called HO & BO a shame about the 2 jasper bound falcons great that Gord moved the nest box I'll cross my fingers that these 2 become flying wanderers not train hoppers.
Thank you bev for the information it is great to hear the stories behind the scenes

I talked to Gord about the Winnipeg fostering and he said it was too long after the loss of the chicks. their hormonal instincts for raising young had passed. It should have been done much sooner.( there may not have been chicks ,old enough to transport from Alberta ,at that time either. It is all timing.)

Thank you for the information, Bev; I thought too much time had passed before the chicks arrived. Timing is the most important thing for fostering.

I really enjoyed the video of the chicks being fostered into the nest.

The chicks are being very well fed. After the feeding above, Mom left the nest for a minute and returned with more food.

Don Mills....I had no clue how low to the ground the ledge was...I'm sure its somewhat higher than what it appears...

Harlie has made her way all the way down to the end (to the right of the nest ledge)...do ya think those people even have a clue as to what is above them?
